Swimming and Diving Shines at NCAA Championships
Our swimming and diving teams are back home after closing the season with two exciting weeks in Atlanta for the NCAA Championships, where our women finished a program-best fourth and the men took 14th and have now finished in the top-15 the last eight championships in a row. Margo Geer and her staff have done an amazing job this season moving both our men and women up the ladder on a national and conference level. We had nine women combine to earn 33 All-America honors, while eight men totaled 25 accolades. Overall, this season's success was a total team effort, and we are extremely proud of each end every one of our student-athletes and the way they fought every step of the way to enhance our tradition of excellence and legacy of champions.
Seattle Bound
Our gymnastics team is headed west for the NCAA Seattle Regional Championships this week. There are nine teams at each of the four regionals around the country and two teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas. Dana Duckworth and her team are coming off their 31st top-two finish at the SEC Championships and they remain the only program in league history to never finish outside the top four at the championships, a truly impressive feat. We had three gymnasts earn regular season All-America accolades and four earn SEC honors over the past week. If you're in the Seattle area, we hope you'll join the Tide for the semifinal round on Thursday, March 31 in Alaska Airlines Arena, and cheer our ladies on.
Schedule of Events Announced for The Integration of Alabama Football: A Celebration of John Mitchell and Wilbur Jackson and A-Day Spring Game
We've got a full slate of events scheduled for the weekend of April 15-16 as part of The Integration of Alabama Football: A Celebration of John Mitchell and Wilbur Jackson. In addition to their Friday activities, John and Wilbur will both be recognized at the TIDE PRIDE luncheon before making their way to Bryant-Denny Stadium for a plaque unveiling ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The duo will also be honored on the field at halftime of the football game. Commemorative posters featuring John and Wilbur will be available throughout the perimeter of the stadium.
Polly Mack Earns Medalist Honors at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic
A strong performance at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic over the weekend earned Polly Mack her first career medalist honors and helped the team to a fourth-place finish. The field included seven of the nation's top 15 individual golfers. Way to go, Polly!
Brittany Davis Sets Alabama Three-Point Record
Congratulations to Brittany Davis for setting the single-season three-point record for our women's basketball team last night in the quarterfinals of the WNIT. She had five three-pointers as part of her 28-point performance to bring her 2021-22 total to 93. We look forward to seeing many more of those next season from you, Brittany!
SEC Seasons in Full Swing for Baseball and Softball
Our baseball and softball teams return to Tuscaloosa this week following SEC road series at Mississippi State and South Carolina, respectively. Coach Bohannon's squad fought all weekend against the defending national champs with one run deciding the game-winner in the first two matchups before Sunday's 6-2 victory. Softball's KJ Haney hit the go-ahead grand slam in Friday's opener in Columbia, and the Tide never looked back, sweeping the series with wins on Saturday and Sunday against the Gamecocks.
Track and Field Opens Outdoor Season
After a strong showing during the indoor season, including Bobby Colantonio Jr.'s NCAA title in the weight throw, Dan Waters and his crew are set to open the outdoor season with a bang, sending a big squad to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, March 31-April 2 and a smaller contingent to the Stanford Invitational, April 1-2. Both meets feature top-flight competition and will challenge our student-athletes right off the line.
