Welcome to March! Hope You're Ready for the Madness!
With March comes spring, flowers and March Madness! It's one of my favorite times of the year and there is a lot to be excited about on the hardwood here in Tuscaloosa. Both of our men's and women's teams are having outstanding seasons and will be ready to go dancing when they hear their names called on Selection Sunday which will air on Sunday, March 15. As a reminder, the men's selection show is at 5 p.m. CT on both CBS and ESPN. The women's selection show will be right after, beginning at 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.Â
Women's Basketball Moves onto Second Round of 2026 SEC Tournament
Our women's basketball team got the Madness started last night in the first round of the 2026 SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C., as our ladies took down Missouri, 65-48. Head coach Kristy Curry and her squad will next take on No. 6 seed Tennessee in the second round, which will be played tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network. Looking forward to cheering on our ladies again!Â
Men's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season with Auburn on Senior Night
Head coach Nate Oats and our men's basketball team head into the final weekend of the regular season having won eight of the last nine SEC games, including an impressive comeback win on the road at then-No. 22/22 Tennessee. Next up are the Auburn Tigers, who will visit Coleman Coliseum on Saturday night. Seniors Latrell Wrightsell, Houston Mallette and Noah Williamson will be honored pregame ahead of the 7:30 p.m. CT tip, so be sure to get to your seats early.Â
Following Saturday's regular-season finale, the team will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for the 2026 SEC Tournament, which takes place March 11-15 in Bridgestone Arena.Â
Reminder to Mark Your Calendars for Golden Flake A-Day
We announced last month that Golden Flake A-Day will take place on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. CT inside Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium, so I wanted to send a reminder to mark your calendars. While we are still waiting to announce additional details surrounding A-Day, attendees should note that some modifications will be made relative to upgraded experiences, activations outside the stadium, concessions and premium seating due to preparations for the concert on Saturday, April 18. As always, the annual Walk of Fame ceremony at Denny Chimes, honoring the 2025 captains, will still take place prior to the scrimmage, as will the Walk of Champions. More information coming soon!
Softball Continues Hot Start
Head coach Patrick Murphy and #Team30 are off to the sixth-best in program history, sitting at 20-0 and ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation as they enter SEC play. Most recently, the team swept a doubleheader by taking a 7-0 win over St. Thomas followed by an 8-1 victory over Oakland. This weekend, the Tide opens league action when the team travels to Oxford, Miss., where it will take on Ole Miss March 6-8. Following that series, our ladies will play five consecutive home games highlighted by a home conference series vs. No. 9 Arkansas March 13-15 at Rhoads Stadium.
Season and single-game tickets are on sale now, so be sure to catch the party at Rhoads!
Baseball Hosts Final Non-Conference Series, Opens SEC Play Next Weekend
Our baseball team will play its final non-conference weekend series of the year when they welcome North Florida for a three-game set March 6-8. It will also be Family Weekend with lots of activities planned so hope to see you out at The Joe! The team swept through its midweek contests this week, downing Jacksonville State, 6-5, before defeating Alabama State, 13-4. With those wins, we improved to 11-3 on the season.
Fans can purchase tickets to any home game this season.
Track and Field Readies for NCAA Indoor Championships
It's NCAA Indoor Championships time for our men's and women's track and field teams, who will head to Fayetteville, Ark., on March 11. Competition begins Friday, March 13 and will run through Saturday, March 14, at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Fans can watch all the action live as both days will be streamed live on ESPN+.
The teams are coming off a solid showing at the 2026 SEC Indoor Championships where they combined for seven podium finishes. The event was highlighted by gold medals from Samuel Ogazi in the 400m and Doris Lemngole in the 3,000m.
Good luck to head coach Dan Waters and our outstanding student-athletes at this year's championships!
Gymnastics Regular Season Winding Down
Our No. 3-ranked gymnastics squad is prepping for a pair of important home meets against Southeatern Conference competition. It begins this weekend when our ladies compete in their second consecutive double meet weekend started by hosting No. 22 Kentucky inside Coleman Coliseum. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the meet begins at 6:30 p.m. CT. Following that, we will travel to take on Illinois on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT on B1G+. On March 13, we close out the regular season at home with Senior Night and Capes and Crowns when we take on No. 6 Georgia at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Swimming and Diving Gears up for NCAAs
A combined 10 student-athletes are already slated to represent Alabama on the national stage at this year's NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The Tide qualified six individuals in 10 events in addition to four relay alternates as UA advanced in all five relay events.
Our team will look to add to its number of qualifiers as the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships gets underway March 8-11 in Athens, Ga. The NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 18-21 in Atlanta, while the men's will run March 25-28 with selections being announced next week. Good luck to head coach Margo Geer and our student-athletes throughout championship season!
Rowing Season Begins This Month
First-year head coach Kumari Lewis and our rowing team will get its 2026 spring season underway when it competes at the Cardinal Invite in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on March 14-15. I am excited to see our program this year and look forward to watching our program thrive under Coach Lewis!Â
Tennis Teams Continue Dual Match Season
Our men's and women's tennis teams are in the middle of their dual match seasons with both teams hosting home matches in the upcoming days. Head coach Jonatan Berhane and our women's team is off to a 10-1 start to the spring including a 2-1 mark in SEC play. Next weekend, the team is on the road where they will face Kentucky (March 13 at 4 p.m. CT) before closing out the trip at Tennessee (March 15 at 10 a.m. CT).
SEC Scholar-Athletes of the Year
Our student-athletes continue to impress both in competition and in the classroom as Alabama already boasts three Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports. Karly Weathers represented the Crimson Tide in women's basketball, while Samuel Ogazi was tabbed as the men's indoor track and field honoree and Emily Jones the winner for women's swimming and diving. We are incredibly proud of these three for their outstanding work!Â
University Spotlight
I mentioned earlier my love for this time of the year and a big part of that excitement are the temperatures rising. With that, there are many things going on around campus and Tuscaloosa that will get you moving. From campus 5Ks to half marathons around town, there are many events to keep you physically, mentally and socially active all month long, so be sure to take a look and see what's happening around campus this month!
