Alabama Swimming and Diving Set for Men’s NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alabama men's swimming and diving team is set to compete at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., at Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The four-day meet will run from March 22-25.
The Crimson Tide had five swimmers qualify for individual events, with Charlie Hawke, Victor Johansson, Derek Maas, Matt Menke and Mateo Miceli representing Alabama across eight individual events. Kaique Alves, Cam Auerbach, Tim Korstanje and Kacper Piotrowski also qualified for the meet as part of all five of Alabama's qualifying relays.
The Alabama men are coming off a seventh-place finish at the 2023 SEC Championships. Last season, the UA men earned a 14th-place finish at NCAA's, marking its eighth consecutive top-15 national finish.
All sessions of the 2023 Men's NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available via MeetMobile.
The Meet
- The Alabama men enter the NCAA Championships ranked 17th in the CSCAA Coaches Poll
- Competition will get underway on Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT with the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay, where UA is seeded 16th and 10th, respectively
- Thursday through Saturday will feature prelims and finals sessions each day, with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. CT and finals beginning at 5 p.m.
Alabama at the NCAA Championships
- Johansson and Hawke earned their NCAA qualifying tickets in the 500 freestyle, where they are seeded 29th and 30th, respectively
- Hawke will also represent the Crimson Tide in the 200 freestyle, as the reigning SEC champion enters the national meet as the No. 3 seed
- Johansson qualified for his second event in the 1,650 freestyle, checking in as the No. 6 seed
- Maas will be the third representative to compete for UA, competing in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley where he is seeded in the top 30 for all three events
- Menke earned his qualifying spot in the 100 backstroke as the No. 22 seed
- Miceli rounds out the individual qualifiers for Alabama in the 200 butterfly, entering the meet as the No. 17 seed
- Kaique Alves, Cam Auerbach, Tim Korstanje and Kacper Piotrowski will see action in the relays, where the Crimson Tide has qualified for all five relays
