The Alabama Track and Field Men’s Team Advances Eight Individuals and a Relay to NCAA Outdoor Championships from the NCAA East Preliminary

Eliud Kipsang, Khaleb McRae, Corde Long, Tarsis Orogot and UA’s 4x400-meter relay all earned spots at next week’s national championships on Friday
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Alabama track and field advanced four more individuals and a relay to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of men's competition at the NCAA East Preliminary being held in Bloomington, Ind., at the Robert Haugh Track & Field Complex this week.
Eliud Kipsang (1,500 meters), Khaleb McRae (400 meters), Corde Long (400-meter hurdles), Tarsis Orogot (200 meters) and the 4x400-meter relay of Leander Forbes, Long, Demetrius Jackson and McRae all earned spots at next month's national championships on Friday.
Bobby Colantonio Jr. (hammer), Victor Kiprop (10,000 meters), Isaac Odugbesan (shot put) and Chago Basso (shot put) earned their trips to Oregon on Wednesday, giving the Tide men eight individuals and a relay heading west.
With the men's competition in the books, the women's team closes out the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday.
Tide Tickets Punched on Friday
- Eliud Kipsang ran a 3:39.47 to take second in Friday's 1,500-meter race to earn his spot in Eugene
- Khaleb McRae ran a 45.67 to finish eighth in Bloomington and advance to the national championships in the 400 meters
- Corde Long posted a 50.69 on Friday to finish seventh overall in the 400-meter hurdles on Friday to earn his way west
- Tarsis Orogot crossed the line at 20.55 in the 200 meters on Friday to earn his spot in Eugene
- The 4x400-meter relay of Leander Forbes, Long, Demetrius Jackson and McRae ran a 3:03.82 to finish seventh on Friday and earn their way to Eugene
The Women on Saturday
- The women return to action on Saturday with the Tide's 4x100-meter relay slated to get things started at 4 p.m. CT
- Flomena Asekol posted a career-best and facility-record time of 4:12.67 to dominate the first round of the 1,500 meters and will race on Saturday with a chance to punch her ticket for Eugene
- Amara Obi posted a career-best 52.98 to advance to Saturday in the 400 meters
- Amari Brown earned her spot in the 200 meters on Saturday with a time of 23.29
- In addition to opening their day with the 4x100-meter relay, the UA women will close with the 4x400-meter relay
- Mercy Chelangat (10,000 meters) and Samantha Zelden (javelin) have already punched their tickets for Eugene and the national championships
- Chelangat, along with Amaris Tyynismaa, will race in the 5,000 meters on Saturday, looking to add to her schedule at the national championships
