The Crimson Tide started the dual-match season 2-0 for the ninth consecutive year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team (2-0) opened the 2022 dual-match season with a pair of wins Sunday, after going 6-1 against Samford (1-1) and 7-0 against Troy (1-0) at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

Alabama recorded both doubles points with the duo of Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak going 2-0 on the day. In singles play, Anne Marie Hiser had a strong showing, dropping a total of just two games and securing the first singles point in both matches. Ola Pitak claimed the deciding point against the Bulldogs as Kasia Pitak secured the victory against the Trojans.

Against the Bulldogs

Alabama took an early lead, winning the doubles point as Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh posted a commanding win on court one, going 6-0 against Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez
Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak went 6-2 on court three to down Linday Song and Ally Hayduk for UA's second doubles victory and the 1-0 start
Hiser opened singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Song at No. 5, while Petra Sedlackova topped Alexis Lopez, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 for a 3-0 lead
The Bulldogs captured a win on court six to make the score 3-1, but Ola Pitak posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Samantha Nanere at No. 2 for the match point
Alabama added wins on court one from Bencheikh, who went 6-4, 6-1 over Janse Van Rensburg, and court four from Anna Parkhomenko, who went 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7) over Sofia Zaprianov

The Tide vs. the Trojans

The Tide again opened with the doubles point as the Pitak sisters captured a dominate 6-0 win over Michelle Ncube and Kristina Kukaras at No. 3 and Sedlackova and Parkhomenko went 6-1 against Chiara Desia Dabarno and Franziska Ahrend at No. 2
Once again, Hiser flew through her match to take the first singles point, winning 12 straight games against Olivia Elliott with a 6-0, 6-0 score
Parkhomenko defeated Andrea Widing on court four, 6-3, 6-0, as Kasia Pitak secured the win with a mirroring 6-2, 6-2 score against Hagar Amin on court six
Sedlackova fought through a third-set tiebreak to go 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5) against Ncube while Bencheikh won 7-5, 6-4 against Anatasiia Khokhlova at No. 1 singles and Ola Pitak went 7-5, 6-4 against Kukaras at No. 2 singles

The Tide will host UAB and UT Chattanooga in a double header on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. Alabama will face the Blazers at 10 a.m. CT, before hosting the Mocs at 2 p.m. CT.
