
Alabama Track and Field Enjoys Strong Showing at Florida Relays

Robert Dunning followed up a school record in the 400m hurdles on Friday by taking top honors in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After opening the Florida Relays with a school record in the 400-meter hurdles, Robert Dunning closed out the two-day event with a gold-medal performance in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
Dunning won the 110-meter hurdles with a 13.55, the second-fastest time of his career. His career-best mark of 13.45 came earlier this season and ranks him second nationally.
The Crimson Tide also went 1-2 in the women's shot put Saturday, with Cherisse Murray (53-10.25/16.41m) getting the win and Nickolette Dunbar (53-05.50/16.29m) taking second.
More Day Two Highlights
- Tamara Clark finished second in the 100 meters with an 11.12, which matches the fifth-fastest time in school history and ties her for second in the nation
- Samantha Kunza took bronze in the women's hammer with a throw of 195-10 (59.68m)
- Keshun McGee finished third in the men's triple jump with a leap of 52-02.50 (15.91m)
- Christal Mosley, Katie Funcheon, D'Jai Baker and Natassha McDonald finished third in the women's 4x400-meter relay with a 3:31.19, which stands fifth in the nation this season
- Alabama was fourth in the 4x100-meter relay with Daija Lampkin, Clark, D'Jai Baker and Aysia Ward combining to go 44.39, good for 12th nationally
- McDonald was also seventh in the 400 meters after crossing the line with a 52.32
- Haley Wright was eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:57.44
- Gabriel Serrano, Joshua St. Clair, Demetrius Jackson and Jonathan Martin ran a 3:10.57 to take eighth in the men's 4x400-meter relay
- Chago Basso took ninth in the men's discus with a throw of 167-07 (51.08m)
- Lampkin also went 11.81 in the 100 meters to take 10th
Day One Highlights
- Robert Dunning broke a nearly 40-year-old school record on Friday, smashing the school 400-meter hurdles record with a 49.70, nearly two-tenths of a second better than Terry Menefee's 49.88 from 1983
- Dunning's mark in Gainesville also ranks second in the nation this season
- Tamara Clark ran an outdoor PR of 22.50 to win the 200 meters
- It is the best time in the nation this season and ranks her third all-time at UA behind Olympic medalists Lillie Leatherwood (22.38) and Pauline Davis (22.49)
- Overall, Clark now holds seven of UA's all-time top-10 outdoor 200-meter marks
- Eliud Kipsang also had a big Friday, running away from the field in the men's 1,500 meters with a career-best 3:40.35, more than three seconds ahead of his closest competitor
- Kipsang's time ranks him second all-time at UA behind the legendary David Kimani's 3:38.74 school record from 2001
- The rookie now ranks third nationally in the 1,500 this season
- Ryan Lipe took top honors in the men's pole vault after clearing 17-02.75 (5.25m), tying the 10th-best mark in school history
- Bobby Colantonio Jr. (223-06/68.12m) finished second and Kieran McKeag (219-07/66.93m) took fourth in the men's hammer throw
- Esther Gitahi earned bronze in the women's 1,500 meters with a career-best time of 4:16.50, which gives her fourth-fastest time in UA history, the fastest since 1987 and the fourth fastest in the nation this season
- Isaac Odugbesan took third in the men's shot put with a toss of 62-07.25 (19.08m)
- Samantha Zelden took fourth in the women's javelin with a throw of 167-03 (50.97m), the 10th-best throw in school history
- Megan Patton was fifth in the women's 5,000 meters after crossing the line at 16:48.74
