
Alabama Track and Field’s Jake Spotswood Opens Crimson Tide Invitational with Strong Day One

The junior is in second place halfway through the decathlon with 3779 points
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After a strong showing in the jumps, Alabama track and field junior Jake Spotswood is in second place after day one of the decathlon at the Crimson Tide Invitational. The 2021 Crimson Tide Invitational, presented by Beynon Sports, continues on Friday.
Spotswood posted the top marks in the long jump (7.08 meters) and high jump (1.99 meters) to score 3779 points through five events and sit less than 20 points behind Louisiana's Chandler Mixon, who is currently in first.
Schedule of Events
- Jake Spotswood finishes out the decathlon on Friday, staring at 10 a.m. CT with the 110-meter hurdles, while the second part of the women's heptathlon opens at 12 p.m. CT with the long jump
- The rest of Friday's events get underway at 4 p.m. CT with the men's and women's hammer throws
- The Alabama women begin competition Friday at 4 p.m. CT with Taylor Gorum and Samantha Kunza participating in the hammer throw
- Friday wraps up after the men's 5,000 meters, which is set to begin at 9:05 p.m. CT, and features Mateo Barreto, Alex Mielke, Scott Platek and Rich Saenz for the Crimson Tide
- Saturday opens with Nickolette Dunbar and Taylor Gorum competing in the women's discus event at 11 a.m. CT
- Saturday's running events will start after the playing of the National Anthem at 12:55 p.m. CT with the women's and men's 4x100-meter relays
- The Crimson Tide Invitational closes after the men's 4x400-meter relay is run at 6:20 p.m. CT
The Crimson Tide Invitational Field
- The No. 1 LSU women, No. 2 LSU men, and the No. 13 Mississippi State men comprise the nationally ranked teams travelling to compete against the Tide this weekend
- The complete list of teams participating in the Crimson Tide Invitational include Alabama, Central Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana-Lafayette, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Troy, Tulane and UAB (women only)
Due to health and safety considerations in addition to the current guidelines, fan attendance at the Crimson Tide Invitational is on a first-come, first-served basis until reaching the limited seating capacity. Facial coverings must be worn at all times unless eating or drinking.
