Track and Field Travels to Arkansas for Indoor Regular Season Finale

The Tyson Invitational will be Alabama's last indoor non-championship meet before SEC Championships
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The men's and women's track & field teams wrap up the regular indoor season at the Tyson Invitational Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
This weekend is a preview of the Randal Tyson Track Center, as the Crimson Tide will return for the Southeastern Conference Championships on Feb. 25-27.
Competition will commence at 1 p.m. CT on Friday with the women's long jump, while the running events for the weekend will kick off with the women's 60m hurdles at 2 p.m. CT on Friday. Coverage of the event will be streamed live on the SEC Network+ platform beginning at 3 p.m. CT on Friday and 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.
Scouting the Field
Alabama will face a field of stacked opponents including No. 1 Arkansas, No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 Texas, No. 6 LSU and No. 8 Florida on the women's side and No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 5 Florida State, No. 9 Texas and No. 10 Florida on the men's list.
Rising in the Ranks
- Both Crimson Tide squads enter the weekend nationally ranked in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association that were released on Monday
- The women come into the weekend ranked No. 7 while the men are No. 14, marking their highest ranking of the year
Last Time Out
- Alabama travels to Fayetteville for the first of three visits during the indoor track and field season
- The men's and women's teams' achievements at the South Carolina Invitational were highlighted by four school records, three victories and four runner-up finishes
- Jake Spotswood broke the Alabama men's heptathlon record by 108 points while placing third in competition with 5,447 points total
- The women's previous 3,000m run school record was shattered by both Mercy Chelangat (9:02.54) and Amaris Tyynismaa (9:03.46)
- Distance runner Eliud Kipsang broke the 21-year old program record in the men's indoor mile with a time of 3:57.83
- Isaac Odugbesan earned his second gold medal of the season with a toss of 19.33m in men's shot put
- Fellow thrower Bobby Colantonio Jr. secured a runner-up finish in the men's weight throw with a mark of 22.07m
- In her season debut, Jami Reed placed second in the women's indoor mile marking a personal best time of 4:43.36
- Haley Wright led the Crimson Tide women in the 5,000m (18:00.47) with a third place finish
During the Tyson Invitational, venue attendance will be limited to essential personnel to allow coaches, support staff and student-athletes to achieve physical distancing. In accordance with SEC policy, no unattached athletes will participate at any meets throughout the season. Additionally, athletes, coaches, staff and officials will adhere to social distancing and masking measures.
