Sydney Vincens scored her first career goal in her first start for the Crimson Tide
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 15 Alabama women's soccer team (1-1-1, 1-1-1) was handed its first loss of the 2020 season, falling 2-1 to the Florida Gators (1-0-1, 1-0-1) at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Crimson Tide ended a 301 consecutive-minute scoring draught against the Gators, when sophomore Sydney Vincens notched her first career goal in the fifth minute of the match. Vincens' goal marked the first Alabama goal in eight years when the Tide shutout Florida 1-0 in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 19, 2012.
In the 62nd minute, the Gators found an equalizer from Madison Alexander and assists by Maddy Rhodes and Kouri Peace, to tie up the score at 1-1. Florida's finial goal and the game deciding sequence came in the 82nd minute when Kouri Peace and Kit Loferski found Alivia Gonzalez.
Behind the Box
- In her 2020 season debut, forward Vincens, registered her first career start and goal in the opening five minutes of action in Gainesville.
- Statistically, the Gators outshot the Tide 18-8 with 13 of those coming in the second half.
- In the net, junior McKinley Crone made 10 saves on the day.
