Macy Clem scores the Tide’s lone goal of the game Sunday afternoon
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to the Southeastern Conference favorite, No. 3 Arkansas, Sunday at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
From the opening whistle, Arkansas (4-0-0, 4-0-0) played directly at Alabama (1-2-1, 1-2-1) challenging every possession and every pass, and through the first 20 minutes held a 4-1 advantage in the shots department. The Razorbacks broke through with a corner kick opportunity in the 27th minute. After Nayeli Perez sent a curving ball into the far side of the field, Kayla McKeon connected to give them the early lead.
The game-tying strike came in the 40th minute when sophomore Macy Clem redirected the ball up and over the keeper to the top left corner of the net to register her first goal of the season and fifth collegiate goal.
The second half was a back-and-forth, physical affair that featured three yellow cards, including two credited to the visitors. Play remained quiet for much of the second half as Alabama settled in, but still struggled to find openings on offense, sending both squads into overtime. Less than a minute into extended regulation, Ava Rankersley struck and found the golden goal on the team's first shot in overtime.
