The Crimson Tide will take on the 12th-ranked Tigers on Friday and 24th-ranked Aggies on Sunday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team will hit the road to open Southeastern Conference play when it takes on No. 12 LSU on Friday at 4 p.m. CT in Baton Rouge, La., and then matches up against No. 24 Texas A&M on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in College Station, Texas.
The Crimson Tide (10-3, 0-0 SEC) is coming off of last weekend's Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, in which the Tide fell to then-No. 22 Illinois and then bounced back with a victory over Yale, 4-2, on Saturday. Alabama closed out the tournament with a heart-breaking 4-3 loss to then-No. 37 Auburn.
Senior Andie Daniell comes into the weekend ranked No. 62 in singles, while posting a 7-3 record in non-conference play. Junior Alba Cortina Pou has been a staple for the Tide this season, posting a 10-1 mark in singles competition. In doubles, juniors Ann Selim and Kimberley Gintrand lead the team with a 10-2 record so far this season.
LSU (10-2, 0-0 SEC) moved up from No. 16 to No. 12 in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings and sports a 6-0 record on its home court. The Tigers have won their last four matches, including a nationally-ranked win over No. 19 Old Dominion, 6-1, on Feb. 22. LSU is led by its No. 1 singles player in Eden Richardson who is ranked No. 15 in the last singles rankings. In doubles, the Tigers have two pairs ranked in the top-60 with Richardson and Jessica Golovin coming into the weekend at No. 11 in the nation, while Taylor Bridges and Paris Corley are No. 57.
The Tigers own the 31-15 all-time series record against the Tide, including winning the last three meetings by a 4-3 score.
Before the Aggies (12-1, 0-0 SEC) matchup against the Tide on Sunday, they will host No. 34 Auburn on Friday to begin their SEC slate. Texas A&M has one player ranked in the latest singles rankings with No. 86 Jayci Goldsmith and one pair in doubles with No. 52 Renee McBryde and Katya Townsend.
A&M owns the 6-5 advantage all-time, however, the Tide got the best of Texas A&M last season with a 4-3 upset in Tuscaloosa on April 15, 2018 against the No. 32-ranked Aggies.
