Alabama Athletics to Collect Donations for Hurricane Harvey Recovery Efforts
Next week, we will be collecting donations to support the United Way in its efforts to assist with Hurricane Harvey recovery in the Houston area. Coleman Worldwide Moving of Dothan, Ala., has graciously donated an 18-wheel truck that will be parked at University Mall adjacent to McFarland Boulevard. Drop off times are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 7 from 3 – 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8 from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 9 from 8 – 11 a.m. For more information, including a list of items needed, click here.
Ready for Some Football?
The countdown is nearly over for the start of the 2017 football season, which I know many of you have anxiously been awaiting. For those of you heading to Atlanta for Saturday's opener against Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, safe travels and we will see you there! Also a reminder that there are a limited number of discounted tickets remaining for the home opener on Sept. 9, which you can purchase here.
College Colors Day
As we do every week with #RollTideFriday, we encourage fans to wear crimson and white to show their support of Alabama, however this Friday will also coincide with the 13th annual College Colors Day. This year's College Colors theme, "United We Fan," highlights the emotional connection fans have not only to their school, but also to fellow fans when they see each other wearing the same name and colors, no matter the location. Looking forward to seeing lots of crimson and white in Tuscaloosa and Atlanta!
Soccer Earns Program's First Win Over Top-10 Opponent
We are so proud of our soccer team for its win over Florida State last weekend, which happened to be the team's first victory over a top-10 opponent in program history. Congratulations to our student-athletes and Coach Wes Hart and staff for a great performance and exciting start to the year!
Cross Country, Soccer and Volleyball in Action This Weekend
Our cross country team begins its season on Friday in Oxford, Ala. with the Struts Season Opener hosted by Jacksonville State. The women's race gets things started at 6 p.m. CT, while the men's 5K will follow at 6:40 p.m. CT. Oxford Lake Park is just off I-20, so if you're headed to Atlanta it would be a great place to stop, stretch your legs and cheer on the Tide.
Soccer (3-1) and Volleyball (2-1) continue their seasons on the road this weekend with soccer taking on South Alabama and Troy, while volleyball also heads to Mobile to face South Alabama, Southern Miss and McNeese State.
Student-Athlete Enhancement Programming Underway
At The University of Alabama, we not only strive to see our student-athletes graduate and win championships, but we also want to prepare them for life after sport. Jessie Gardner, Brett Basham and Joe Suiter of our student-athlete enhancement staff do an outstanding job of creating programming that is vital to the overall development of our student-athletes. Last weekend, we kicked things off with the Emerging Tide Leaders Academy and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Retreat and closed out the weekend with some fun and fellowship amongst student-athletes, coaches and staff at the Crimson Tide Kickoff Mixer and BBQ.
Hey Coach and the Nick Saban Radio Show
We have had two great weeks of Hey Coach at the newly-renovated Baumhower's Victory Grille, and this week, Coach Nick Saban joins the set for his first appearance of the season. Also scheduled for tonight's show is Coach Avery Johnson and Coach Brad Bohannon. Remember that the show can be heard on the Crimson Tide Sports Network and seen on Facebook Live via the Alabama Athletics page beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT each week.
University Spotlight
One of the neat traditions our incoming freshmen and transfer students get to experience each year is Convocation and the Script A class photo inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. I had the privilege of joining President Bell, Dr. Grady, SGA President Jared Hunter, Coach Avery Johnson and Coach Brad Bohannon at this year's event. If you have not already gotten a chance to see it, I encourage you to check it out. Pretty special for all involved!
#RollTideFriday
Keep your #RollTideFriday photos coming! Each week I look forward to seeing where Alabama fans are going to check in from wearing their gear, and it continues to amaze me. In today's Crimson Column, we are featuring Paul and Dalton Hopper in Santa Monica and Tom Collins docked on the Danube River in Austria. Great pics!
