
Softball Races Past Central Connecticut, 17-1

TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 2-ranked Alabama softball team swept its way through the first day of the USF Fairfield Inn and Suites Tournament by running past Central Connecticut, 17-1 Friday night at the USF Softball Stadium. The Crimson Tide used a 10-run second inning to secure the win and improve to 13-0 on the season.
Alabama gave up an early run in the top of the first but answered with 17 runs to earn its eighth run-rule victory on the season.
The Tide plated two in the first inning, put a 10-spot up on the board in the second and added five more in the fourth to grab the lopsided win. Alabama banged out 12 hits and smashed two home runs, with 10 different players collecting a hit in the contest.
Sophomore Keima Davis led the charge with the bat, hitting 3-for-3, with a home run, three runs scored and four RBI.
Sophomore Lauren Sewell improved to 3-0 on the season, going the distance for the Crimson Tide. The right-hander scattered four hits, allowed one run and struck out three in the winning effort.
Alabama will return to tournament play on Saturday for two more games. The Crimson Tide will start off the day with a morning contest against Western Michigan. First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m. CT. Alabama will then close out the day against Missouri at 11:30 a.m. CT.
