Christian Pino is in his third season with the Alabama basketball program, and his first as full-time member of the staff. After spending his first two years as a graduate manager, Pino was promoted to the director of player development and recruiting coordinator in July of 2021, following the Tide’s SEC Championship and NCAA Tournament run.
In his current role, Pino is primarily responsible for helping with skill development, as well as assisting with practice plans and game charts. Additionally, he maintains the program’s recruiting database and presentations, while also assisting the coaching staff with opponent’s scouts.
Alabama is not the first time Pino has been under head coach Nate Oats. A native of Detroit, Mich., Pino played for Oats at Romulus High School, helping lead the Eagles to a 27-1 overall record and the Michigan Class A state championship in 2013.
After playing a year (2013-14) under then-head coach Herb Sendek at Arizona State, Pino reunited with Oats, who had become an assistant coach at Buffalo in 2014. He completed his final three seasons (2014-17) of eligibility with the Bulls’ program and was a part of back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths as well as the program’s first-ever MAC tournament championship in 2015 and 2016.
In addition to his time under Oats, Pino also added coaching experience before entering the collegiate coaching profession, serving as the assistant boys’ varsity coach at Seaholm (Mich.) High School for the 2018-19 season.
Pino graduated from Buffalo in 2017 with a degree in business administration. He earned his master’s in sports hospitality from Alabama in 2021.
