Doris Lemngole Wins Again in Steeplechase on Day Two of SEC Outdoor Championships

Seven Crimson Tide student-athletes combined for eight medals Friday to propel Alabama into first place in both team standings heading into the final day
AUBURN, Ala. – Alabama track and field surged to the top of both team standings Friday at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships, as seven Crimson Tide student-athletes combined to win eight medals on day two of competition.
Leading the charge was Doris Lemngole, who became the first student-athlete in SEC history to win the women's steeplechase title in three consecutive seasons. The reigning Bowerman Award winner clocked a world-leading 9:18.66, in her season opener, to break both the meet and facility records while securing Alabama's second gold medal in as many days.
The Tide added four silver medals across the day, led by Miracle Ailes in the women's high jump (1.87m | 6-1.50), Harry Crosby in the decathlon (7,005 points), Cynthia Jemutai in the women's steeplechase (9:39.87) and Bismack Kipchirchir in the men's steeplechase (8:33.83). Competing in both events simultaneously, Ailes also earned bronze in the women's long jump (6.45m | 21-2), while Patrick Daves (decathlon | 6,342 points) and Ezekiel Pitireng (men's steeplechase | 8:34.23) rounded out the podium finishes with third-place performances.
On the track, Samuel Ogazi (44.96, Q) and Alexander Osayemi (45.59, Q) won their respective 400-meter preliminary heats to advance to Saturday's final, while Milicent Wafula (4:23.17, Q) and Hamdani Benahmed (3:44.54, q) qualified for the men's and women's 1,500-meter finals.
At the conclusion of day two, Alabama leads the men's standings with 43 points and the women's standings with 62.5 points.
