Lebron and Bonomolo Jr. provided all three extra-base hits for the Crimson Tide in the defeat
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – No. 12 Alabama baseball was topped by Mississippi State, 13-3, in Friday's series opener at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The contest was called after eight innings due to the 10-run rule. The loss drops the Crimson Tide to 28-7 overall and 7-6 in Southeastern Conference play.
Justin Lebron led the Crimson Tide offense with a 3-for-5 line that featured two doubles, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Friday marked the second straight contest in which Lebron recorded three hits. Richie Bonomolo Jr. hit his second triple of the season as part of his 2-for-5 evening, while Bryce Fowler also managed a 2-for-4 effort.
Zane Adams (4-2) made his ninth start of the season and was hit with his second consecutive losing appearance after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in 4.0 innings of work. JT Blackwood emerged from the Alabama bullpen in the fifth to try to stifle a Bulldog rally but was unsuccessful as he allowed three runs on three hits, retiring just one man. As well, Coulson Buchanan, Aidan Moza and Beau Bryans were each responsible for a run in their respective outings.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"Tough night. I thought Mississippi State came out swinging and hung a three-spot in the first inning. I loved our at-bats against Pico Kohn. I thought we had unbelievable at-bats and we ran off the plan to a tee. It was just one of those nights where we had a lot of loud outs. Ultimately, they're a really good team at the plate and we just missed down the middle too much, particularly in that fifth inning, and credit Mississippi State for not missing those pitches. But this is college baseball in the SEC and we took it on the chin again tonight. You'd like to come out and play a little bit better on a Friday night, particularly at home against a good team, and we didn't."
