Alabama Opens 2024 Fall Season at Debbie Southern Fall Classic

The Crimson Tide travels to Greenville, S.C., for a three-day tournament, beginning Friday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the second consecutive year, the Alabama women's tennis team will open its 2024 fall season on the road at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic, hosted by Furman, at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The three-day tournament is set to begin Friday, Sept. 13, at 8 a.m. CT and will include student-athletes from 14 schools.
The Tournament
- The Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic will be held Sept. 13-15 in Greenville, S.C.
- Matches will begin at 8 a.m. CT on all three days
- Match formats are as followed:
- Friday and Saturday: One round of doubles followed by one round of singles
- Sunday: One round of singles
- Three UA student-athletes will represent the Tide, including Klara Milicevic, Sara Nayar and Petra Sedlackova
- Opponents: Auburn, Clemson, Furman, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, NC State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Texas Tech and Wake Forest
The Crimson Tide
- Alabama enters the 2024-25 season coming off postseason appearances in both the SEC and NCAA tournaments last year
- Head coach Jonatan Berhane begins his second season at the helm for the Crimson Tide, while assistant coach Alba Cortina Pou also starts season two at UA
- The Tide welcomes back five veterans – Ansley Cheshire, Klara Milicevic, Margaux Maquet, Priya Nelson and Petra Sedlackova
- Over the offseason, Alabama picked up transfers Maria Martinez-Vaquero from San Francisco and Sara Nayar from NC State
- Entering the fall season, Alabama sits at No. 33 on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while Petra Sedlackova (No. 46) and Margaux Maquet (No. 114) hold single rankings
- Margaux Maquet and Maria Martinez-Vaquero earned their first professional title at the W35 Punta Cana
- Ansley Chesire, Margaux Maquet and Klara Milicevic were placed on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team over the summer
- At the end of the 2023-24 season, Petra Sedlackova picked up Second Team All-Southeastern Conference honors
