Women’s Tennis Falls 4-3 to SMU in First Round of the NCAA Tournament

The Crimson Tide’s loss concludes the team portion of the 2023-24 season
STILLWATER, Okla. – After a hard-fought, back-and-forth match against SMU (14-11), the Alabama women's tennis team fell, 4-3, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson Tide (15-11) earned all three points during singles after Petra Sedlackova, Anna Parkhomenko and Klara Milicevic won on their respective courts.
Although Alabama picked up a 6-1 win from Ola Pitak and Milicevic against Maja Makoric and Millie Skelton at the No. 3 spot, SMU claimed the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots. No. 45 Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor secured the point after beating No. 20 Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser in a tiebreaker (7-6(8-6)).
The Tide started off strong in singles after Parkhomenko defeated Maja Makoric on court five in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2. Sedlackova followed Parkhomenko, finishing second on court two after beating Drew Morris, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. UA would force a third set on courts one, three, four and six, which included Milicevic downing Skelton, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on court six to give the Tide a 3-2 advantage.
SMU would go on to finalize the 4-3 victory after Hadley Doyle defeated Pitak, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, on court three.
