
Tarsis Orogot Named SEC Men’s Runner of the Week

Orogot was named the Men’s Runner of the Week following a historic performance from the junior in the 200-meter dash at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the third consecutive week, the Alabama men's track and field program received weekly recognition from the Southeastern Conference. Tarsis Orogot was named the league's Men's Runer of the Week following his historic performance in the 200-meter dash at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
Hailing from Soroti, Uganda, Orogot clocked 19.90 (1.9) in his outdoor 200-meter season debut at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. His NCAA-leading performance in Gainesville, FL, broke his own Ugandan national record (19.94) and East African record, as well as the school record. With his 13th-fastest time in collegiate history, the junior has automatically qualified for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Alabama track and field program will have representation at the Wake Forest Invitational over the weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. In the most recent USTFCCCA rankings, the UA men's squad is ranked third, with the women's side sitting at 24th.
