
Alabama Opens NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

The Crimson Tide sends eight student-athletes to the four-day event in Athens, Ga.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Eight UA swimmers will compete for a national title beginning Wednesday as Alabama heads to the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. The four-day event will run Wednesday through Saturday at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

Meet Notes
- Alabama qualified seven individual swimmers in Jocelyn Fisher, Ella Menear, Diana Petkova, Gaby Van Brunt, Cadence Vincent, Liberty Williams and Avery Wiseman, in addition to Kailyn Winter who will compete as a part of UA's relay contingent
- The seven individual swimmers combine for 18 event entries
- Avery Wiseman paces the team, entering as the seventh seed in the 100 breaststroke
- Her entry time of 58.08 earned her a silver medal at the Southeastern Conference Championships
- Wiseman also ranks 21st in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:08.22
- In addition to Wiseman, Liberty Williams ranks in the top 20 in the mile with her time of 16:06.49 from the SEC Championships, a performance that ranks her third in program history
- Three Alabama freshmen will make an appearance at the national meet in their first season of collegiate competition
- Gaby Van Brunt and Cadence Vincent both earned a spot in three events, while Ella Menear secured a spot in both backstroke competitions
- Van Brunt highlights Alabama in the 100 butterfly with her time of 51.68, which she captured at the SEC Championships to rank second all-time on UA's top performers list
- Vincent's best event comes off a 22.10 performance in the 50 freestyle at the Tennessee Invite, while Menear's 52.15 in the 100 backstroke from the conference championships placed both athletes on UA's all-time list with Vincent ranking fifth and Menear ranking second in their respective events
- Additionally, Diana Petkova qualified in three events as Jocelyn Fisher advanced in two events
- Both student-athletes join Wiseman in the 100 breaststroke as Fisher and Petkova enter with a 50.70 and 59.71, respectively
- As a team, Alabama will race in four relay events, earning a spot in the 200 and 400 medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relay
