No. 19/17 Alabama Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Opens SEC Championships Monday

The Crimson Tide contingent will compete in the six-day event in Auburn, Ala., at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 19/17 Alabama men's and women's swimming and diving teams head to Auburn, Ala., to compete in the six-day SEC Championships.
The competition will begin on Monday with diving only as the swimming events get underway on Tuesday. A champion will be crowned Saturday at the conclusion of the meet.

The Competition
- Alabama is coming off a strong regular season, which included two school record-setting performances
- In addition to breaking the UA record, Charlie Hawke's 500 free time of 4:12.91 enters the week as the fourth-fastest seeded time
- Hawke alongside teammates Zarek Wilson, Kaique Alves and Tim Korstanje topped the Alabama 400 freestyle relay standard with a time of 2:47.95 to rank third in the SEC
- Combined, Alabama has 12 marks seeded in the top five with an additional 19 performances falling in the top 10
- Hawke and Alves pace the men's 200 freestyle ranking first and second in the conference, respectively, while diver Ryleigh Rodgers holds the third-best 3m performance and Cadence Vincent holds the third-best 50 free performance
- As a team, Alabama has held a top-20 national ranking all season and enters the contest ranked 19th on the men's side and 17th on the women's side
- The UA diving unit has tallied a combined 15 NCAA Zone cuts, as Rodgers and Courtney Russo hold a qualifying mark on all three events
- The Tide faced Auburn in its last outing, capturing three facility records in the home meet back in January (1/19)
- Avery Wiseman broke a 23-year-old Alabama facility record in the 200 breaststroke as her 2:08.22 performance topped Anne Poleska's 2:08.85 from 2001
- The women's 200 medley relay team of Gaby Van Brunt, Wiseman, Kailyn Winter and Vincent bettered the UA facility record by nearly two seconds with a 1:35.81 to beat the previous mark of 1:37.23 set in 2008
- Hawke paced the men's team with a facility record in the 200 freestyle as his time of 1:32.90 broke the previous record of 1:34.23 set in 2008 by Shaune Fraser
