Alabama Leads the NCAA in Graduation Success Rate
The NCAA recently announced its latest Graduation Success Rates where we were thrilled to see that we not only posted an all-time high GSR of 96, but also tied for the top spot in the nation among Power Four conferences. In addition, 15 of our programs scored a 90-or-better with 11 earning perfect 100s in their respective sports. We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment, which demonstrates our commitment to success in competition and in the classroom at Alabama.
NCAA Championships on Deck for Cross Country
Our seventh-ranked women's team and No. 8 men's team left for Wisconsin yesterday in preparation for Saturday's NCAA Cross Country Championships, which are being held at the Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course in Madison. The women's 6K is scheduled for a 9:20 a.m. CT start while the men's 10K race will follow at 10:10 a.m. CT with both airing live on ESPNU.
Upcoming Home Matches for Volleyball
We've got three home matches in the next week for volleyball, beginning with Friday, November 22 against South Carolina where one lucky fan will win a pair of Alabama Nikes. On Sunday, November 24, we will host Ole Miss at 2 p.m. CT for Kids Day before closing out the season on Friday, November 29 against LSU where we will celebrate Senior Day.
Regular Season Winding Down for Football
Hard to believe we've only got two more regular season football games to go in 2024, beginning with Saturday's road tilt at Oklahoma. This will be the seventh meeting in the history of the series and second in Norman. The two teams last met on Dec. 29, 2018, in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Orange Bowl where we came out on top, 45-34.
Following the trip to OU, we will close out the regular season at home on Saturday, November 30, hosting Auburn for a 2:30 p.m. CT kick on ABC. Tickets are sold out through the Alabama Ticket Office, however a limited number can be found on SeatGeek.
Men's Basketball Continues Road Swing
Our eighth-ranked men's basketball team played its second game of a six-game road series last night in Birmingham with a 100-87 victory over No. 25 Illinois in the annual C.M. Newton Classic. We had great balance on offense with four players reaching double figures, led by Grant Nelson's 23 points.
Next up, the team heads to Las Vegas for the Players Era Festival where it will take on No. 7 Houston, No. 24 Rutgers and another team from the eight-team field in the final round. Other teams participating in the tournament include No. 14 Creighton, No. 23 Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Oregon and San Diego State.
Women's Basketball Heads to Florida for Emerald Coast Classic
Our 21st-ranked and undefeated women's basketball team heads to Niceville, Florida next week for the Emerald Coast Classic where it will take on Alabama State on Monday, November 25 and either UAB or Clemson on Tuesday, November 26. We look forward to having our team back in Coleman Coliseum on Monday, December 2 for one of our favorite events of the year, welcoming thousands of Tuscaloosa city and county 5th graders for our annual 5th Grade Fastbreak game. Tip for that contest against Georgia State is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT.
Swimming and Diving in Action at Georgia Invitational
Our swimming and diving teams are currently competing in Athens, Georgia at the Georgia Invitational, where after day one, our men's team stands in second place while the women finished in third. The men were led by Charlie Hawk and Tommy Hagar, both earning silver, while our women's team was led by Cadence Vincent, who helped secure first-place finishes in the 400 freestyle relay and 50 freestyle. The three-day meet will wrap up Friday, November 22, which also signals the end of competition for the calendar year for swimming and diving. The 2025 portion of our schedule will pick up on January 11.
Gymnastics Television Schedule Announced
Six of our gymnastics meets were selected for national television, including one on ESPN2, four on the SEC Network and one on the ACC Network. We're just seven weeks away from the start of the season, which kicks off Friday, January 10 in Coleman Coliseum, however you can get an early look at this year's squad at the Crimson and White Preview Meet on Friday, December 6.
Softball Schedule Announced
Softball's entire 2025 schedule was announced earlier today, which will begin in Tucson, Arizona at the Candrea Classic. The Tide's first home weekend is set for February 21-23 for the Easton Bama Bash, where we will host Drake, Southern Utah and Virginia Tech. The schedule features 18 teams that advanced to the 2024 NCAA tournament, including Women's College World Series teams in Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and UCLA.
Thank-A-Thon
Our student-athletes, coaches and staff are all deeply aware of the impact our donors have on Alabama Athletics. Last week, nearly 200 student-athletes participated in our tenth annual Thank-A-Thon, taking time to call more than 1,300 Crimson Tide Foundation donors and share their heartfelt gratitude. Our donors play a critical role in ensuring a world-class experience for the 600+ student-athletes we serve, and we are grateful for their loyalty and generosity.
University Spotlight
Since 2018, Operation Iron Ruck has taken place prior to the Iron Bowl to bring awareness to veteran suicides. Members of UA's Campus Veterans Association alongside Auburn's Student Veterans Association will march from Jordan-Hare Stadium on Wednesday, November 27 and end in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, November 30. The student veterans will carry 22 pounds of donated materials to represent the estimated 22 veterans who die by suicide every day.
