
No. 4 Alabama Falls to No. 1 Michigan in Overtime, 27-20, in CFP Semifinal

PASADENA, Calif. - The No. 1 Michigan Wolverines defeated No. 4 Alabama in overtime, 27-20, in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
The contest was evenly matched in most every category, with the Crimson Tide racking up 288 total yards of offense and possessing the ball for 32:19 while the Wolverines finished with 351 total yards and 27:41 possession.
Alabama's Jase McClellan finished with 87 yards on 14 carries to go with a pair of touchdowns to lead the rushing attack. Jalen Milroe (63 yards) and Justice Haynes (31 yards) also aided the ground game as part of a unit that piled up a total of 172 yards on the day.
Milroe accumulated 116 yards through the air on 16-of-23 passing to finish the contest with 179 yards of total offense. Isaiah Bond (47 yards) and Jermaine Burton (21 yards) each had four catches apiece to lead the receivers.
Defensively, Caleb Downs finished the game with 14 tackles and a pass breakup. Kool-Aid McKinstry collected double-digit tackles with 10, while Deontae Lawson added six tackles and a pair of pass breakups.
Notes
- Alabama participated in its eighth Rose Bowl matchup in school history with Monday's contest against Michigan. The Crimson Tide now holds a 5-2-1 mark in all-time Rose Bowl games.
- The contest marked head coach Nick Saban's first CFP Semifinal loss since 2014, with the Crimson Tide having won six straight Semifinals entering Monday.
- Will Reichard finished the contest with a pair of field goals to move past Leigh Tiffin and into first on the school's all-time career field goal list. Reichard totaled 84 career field goals, one better than Tiffin's 83.
- Reichard closes his outstanding career as the NCAA's all-time scoring leader with 547 career points.
