
Alabama Track and Field Set to Compete at Joe Walker Invite

The Crimson Tide will travel to Oxford, Miss., for the two-day meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams will continue their season in Oxford, Miss., at the Joe Walker Invite hosted by conference foe Ole Miss.
The Crimson Tide will compete at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex with the men's hammer throw leading off the weekend meet at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon.
The Alabama men's program currently sits at No. 7, nationally, in the USTFCCCA week two rankings after its record-breaking performances at both the Texas Relays and the Stanford Invitational.
The Meet
- Alabama's Bobby Colantonio Jr. will open his individual outdoor season on Friday afternoon in the men's hammer throw
- The women are traveling nine athletes to Oxford, while the men's travel list is 13 strong
- In addition to host school and conference foe Ole Miss, Alabama will face Alabama A&M, Arkansas State, Austin Peay, Ball State, Coahoma Community College, Illinois State, Indiana State, Jackson State, Lamar, Lipscomb, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi State, Mississippi Valley, Murray State, Notre Dame, Sam Houston, South Alabama, St. Norbert, Tennessee-Martin, ULM, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky
Last Time Out
- During its multi-meet weekend, the Crimson Tide amassed 25 top-10 finishes, six UA all-time top-10 jumps, three school records and one event sweep across meets in Texas, Florida and California
- Victor Kiprop broke the 10,000-meter school record after clocking 27:57.63 at the Stanford Invitational. The feat came six years to the day that the original record (28:04.95) was set by Alfred Chelanga, also in the state of California.
- Chris Robinson set the new UA standard in the 400-meter hurdles after winning the event at the prestigious Texas Relays. His 49.10 performance currently leads both the Southeastern Conference and the nation heading into this weekend.
- The men's 4x400-meter relay contingent set a new UA record after clocking a sub-three-minute time at the Texas Relays. The 2:59.15 performance ranks No. 2, nationally, and is also the fifth-fastest time in NCAA history.
