Alabama Earns Podium Finish on Day Three of NCAA Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

Derek Maas reached the podium for the second consecutive season in the 100 breaststroke
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alabama men's swimming and diving team continued action at the 2023 NCAA Championships as Derek Maas earned a podium finish on day three in Minneapolis.
Charlie Hawke opened the night for the Crimson Tide, posting a 16th-place finish in the 200 freestyle and earning Second Team All-America honors. Alabama's second swim of the night came from Maas as he placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke, earning First Team All-American honors and his second consecutive top-eight national finish in the event.
The 400 medley relay contingent of Matt Menke, Maas, Mateo Miceli and Kaique Alves capped the night with an 18th-place finish.
At the conclusion of day three, the Crimson Tide sits in 18th place in the team standings with 38 points.
Crimson Tide Highlights
- Derek Maas earned Alabama's first podium finish of the meet in the 100 breaststroke (51.23), taking eighth to earn First Team All-America honors
- Maas' swim marks the second consecutive year he has reached the podium in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Championships
- Charlie Hawke swam a 1:33.27 in the 200 freestyle (16th place), earning Second Team All-American honors
- Menke, Maas, Miceli and Alves recorded a 3:06.05 in the 400 medley relay, finishing in 18th place
