Alabama Men’s Swimming and Diving Concludes NCAA Championships

The Crimson Tide secured its ninth consecutive top-20 finish, placing 19th in the team standings at the 2023 NCAA Championships
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alabama men's swimming and diving team earned All-America honors on the final night of the 2023 NCAA Championships.
The efforts behind Victor Johansson, Derek Maas and the Crimson Tide's 400 freestyle relay squad helped secure a 19th-place team finish. It marks the ninth consecutive season that the Crimson Tide has recorded a top-20 national finish.
Alabama had seven swimmers earn second team All-America honors on Saturday night. Johansson recorded a 15th-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle to open the night, while Maas posted a career-best time in the 200 breaststroke to earn a 10th-place finish. The contingent of Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alve, Tim Korstanje and Matt Menke closed the meet for the Crimson Tide with a season-best performance in the 400 freestyle relay, as the team placed 12th.

"We had a strong night to close the meet. We're all really proud of these guys and what they've accomplished both in and out of the pool. The impact our seniors (Cam Auerbach, Victor Johansson, Derek Maas and Matt Menke) have made on the program has been wonderful. For the younger guys, this meet was a great learning experience. We're going to keep working hard to continue pushing the program forward."
Crimson Tide Highlights
- Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tim Korstanje and Matt Menke closed the meet going a season-best 2:49.41 in the 400 freestyle relay, placing 12th to earn second team All-America honors
- Victor Johansson posted a 14:48.42 in the 1,650 freestyle, earning second team All-America honors with a 15th-place finish
- Maas earned second team All-America honors in the 200 breaststroke, placing 10th with a career-best time of 1:51.53
