Reyes scored the tying goal for the Crimson Tide off a corner kick in the final minute and a half of the game
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Alabama soccer team (4-1-1) battled its way to a 1-1 tie against Utah (3-1-2) on Sunday as the Crimson Tide found the tying goal with a minute and a half to play.
The Crimson Tide was awarded a corner kick in the 88th minute. Felicia Knox lifted the ball into the box for Reyna Reyes to fire into the back of the net for the equalizer.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"I thought we dominated large stretches of the game tonight. We created some very good chances, especially in the second half, but unfortunately, they did not fall. Incredibly proud of the way our team kept fighting until the end.
"Not much time to recover and shift our focus to a very good Utah Valley team. We've asked a lot of our team, playing three quality teams in extreme heat and altitude. If we can get out of Utah with two wins and a draw, I'd say it was a pretty successful trip. But UVU certainly won't make it easy."
How It Happened
A goal at the 2:50 mark gave Utah an early advantage in the game. Taliana Kaufusi caught the end of a through ball from Luisa Delgado to put the Utes on the scoreboard. Alabama held a slight edge in shots, 4-3, and corners, 3-1, in the half but UA would be unable to find the equalizer.
Alabama dominated the second half, leading 12-2 in shots and 7-0 in corner kicks as Utes goalkeeper Evie Vitali came up with four massive saves to keep the Tide off the scoreboard. UA found its break in the final two minutes of the game as Knox sent a corner kick into the box and onto the foot of Reyes. Reyes fired a shot passed the goalkeeper to tie the game.
