
Alabama Track and Field Alum Shelby McEwen Is Fifth in the World Championships High Jump

The Crimson Tide NCAA Champion and All-American posted a leap of 2.30 meters to take fifth place in the men’s high jump
EUGENE, Ore. – Alabama track and field graduate and NCAA Champion Shelby McEwen finished fifth in the men's high jump on day four of the World Championships being held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
In addition to McEwen's top-5 finish, a trio of Crimson Tide standouts earned a place in the semifinals of the 200 meters Monday. Tamara Clark (USA) is fifth after the women's heats, while Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) and Tarsis Orogot (Uganda) both earned their spots in the men's semifinals. Both the men's and women's 200-meter semifinals will run Tuesday evening.
Alabama Results at the World Championships
- Shelby McEwen (USA) tied for ninth in the prelims of the men's high jump with a leap of 2.28 meters, before jumping 2.30 meters in the finals to take fifth place
- Tamara Clark (USA) won the fourth heat and ranks fifth overall coming out of prelims of the women's 200 meters, advancing to the semifinals with a time of 22.27
- Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) won the second heat of the men's 200 meters with a 20.35 to advance to the semifinals
- Tarsis Orogot, the first Ugandan man in history to run the 200 meters at the World Championships, ran a 20.44 in the 4th heat to advance to the semifinals
- Olivia Fotopoulou posted a top-30 finish in the women's 200 meters, posting a 23.25 to take 27th overall
- Kirani James (Grenada) took second in the sixth heat of the 400 meters preliminaries and third overall with a time of 45.29, advancing him to the semifinals
- Champion Allison (USA) won the fifth heat of the 400-meter preliminaries with a time of 45.56, ranking him seventh coming out of heats and advancing him to the semfinals
- Natassha McDonald (Canada) posted a top-30 finish in the women's 400 meters at the World Championships, taking 28th with a time of 52.41
- Daniel Haugh (USA) finished second in the prelims of the men's hammer throw with a toss of 79.34 meters, advancing him to finals, before taking eighth in finals with a toss of 78.10 meters
- Portious Warren (Trinidad and Tobago) took 25th in the women's shot put with a best toss of 16.65 meters
Crimson Tide Action on Day Five (Tuesday)
- Starting at 6 p.m. PT, Tamara Clark (USA) will race in the second semifinal heat of the women's 200 meters
- Tarsis Orogot (Uganda) and Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago) will compete in the men's 200 meters semifinals at 6:45 p.m. PT with both men in the second heat
