TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball fell in extra innings to Missouri, 3-2, Friday night in Tuscaloosa to open the weekend series.
Alabama (39-10, 14-8 SEC) rallied from an early deficit to Missouri (33-17, 12-9 SEC), tying it with a pair of solo home runs from Ashley Prange and Bailey Dowling, the latter being part of a 2-for-4 day to extend the sophomore's hitting streak to four games. A bases-loaded walk in the top of the eighth gave the Tigers the lead and the Tide brought the potential game-winner to the plate in the bottom half but a groundout ended the game. Montana Fouts (20-5) struck out 14 in the complete-game loss, her 14th game this season with double-digit Ks.
Missouri took the first lead of the game with a two-run home run in the top of the first and Alabama responded with a solo shot from Prange in the bottom half to make it 2-1. With the score the same in the bottom of the fourth, another solo homer from Dowling tied it up at 2-2. The Tigers stranded two on base in the top of the sixth and the Tide left the potential winning run at second base in the bottom of the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.
With the bases loaded and two out in the top of the eighth, a walk moved everyone up 60 feet and put Missouri in front, 3-2, before a deep fly ball ended the half-inning. A two-out error in the bottom of the eighth extended the inning and brought the potential winning run to the plate but a groundout ended the game.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"We just didn't continue innings. The most we had up to bat in one inning was five. We just need another person get on base. That's been the story all year long too, it's just very frustrating."
