Abby Doerr broke the 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the sixth
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball evened the weekend series with a 3-1 win over Missouri Saturday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama (40-10, 15-8 SEC) and Missouri (33-18, 12-10 SEC) each scored a run in the first inning and the game remained tied at 1-1 until Abby Doerr drove in two with a sixth-run single, which ultimately proved the difference. Ally Shipman went 2-for-3 with two runs scored while Bailey Dowling was 1-for-1 with an RBI double and two walks, extending her hitting streak to five games. Alex Salter pitched 4.1 strong innings in the start, allowing just one run on seven hits, while Montana Fouts (21-5) earned the win in relief with 2.2 shutout innings on just one hit.
For the second straight game, a home run from Missouri gave the visitors the first lead as a first-inning solo shot made it 1-0. In the bottom of the first, a lengthy at-bat ended in a two-out walk to Shipman and Dowling followed with a 12-pitch plate appearance behind her, ending with an RBI double in the right field gap to tie it at 1-1. The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when Doerr dropped the second pitch of her at-bat into the left field gap with runners in scoring position, driving in Shipman and Dowling to put Alabama ahead 3-1. The Tigers drew a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh but Fouts shut the door with three-straight strikeouts to end the game.
