Ashley Prange hit a three-run home run, Montana Fouts earned a complete-game win
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – With the weekend series up for grabs Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium, Alabama softball took the 3-1 win over Missouri behind a clutch home run from Ashley Prange and a complete-game effort from Montana Fouts.
For the third time this weekend, Alabama (41-10, 16-8 SEC) trailed first after Missouri (33-19, 12-11 SEC) plated a run on a throwing error in the top of the fourth but Prange answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run, her eighth long ball of the year. Fouts (22-5) and the Crimson Tide defense did the rest of the work, limiting the Tigers to just three singles over the final 3.0 innings. A third-inning single extended Bailey Dowling's hit streak to six games and freshman Kali Heivilin went 2-for-3 in her eighth start of the season, her first career multi-hit game.
Alabama stranded two runners in scoring position in both the first and second innings and left one more stranded in the third, unable to break the scoreless tie. Missouri was hitless until a leadoff single in the fourth and then, after a sacrifice to move her up 60 feet, a throwing error allowed her to score from second and give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. With two on and two out in the bottom half of the inning, Ashley Prange bounced one off the top of the wall in left field for a three-run home run to give the Tide a 3-1 lead. That proved enough for Fouts and the Alabama defense as they limited Missouri to just three hits over the remainder of the game.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I have to start with the fans. They have been unreal all year long. I don't know how many sellouts we've had this year, but we sold out all three games this weekend. Give credit to Missouri - they're a great team. For Montana to do what she did today, I thought it was great. She's a senior with a lot of video scouting on her and it's hard to surprise anybody with anything, so credit to her. Then obviously the offensive star was Prange with a three-run home run."
Kaylee Tow on Celebrating her Senior Day
"My career here has been a dream-come-true. It's been a long journey and I have fought from the moment I got here to make the program better and to do everything I can for it. Alabama taking a chance on me gave me the opportunity to get two degrees and set me for life. I tried my hardest to pour my heart out into this program and I really believe that I have done that."
