
Alabama Track and Field Closes Regular Season at With a Pair of Weekend Contests

The Crimson Tide’s distance crew is headed to the Maroon & White Invitational in Starkville, Miss., while the rest of those competing are headed to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Invitational
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track & field closes the outdoor regular season this weekend with a pair of road meets. The majority of the team will travel to the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, La., while a contingent of distance runners will make their way to Starkville, Miss. to compete in the Maroon & White Invitational.
Alabama comes into the final week of the regular season following a strong showing at the Crimson Tide Invitational during which Isaac Odugbesan and Hillary Cheruiyot posted performances that earned them SEC weekly honors, with Odugbesan earning SEC Field Athlete of the Week and Cheruiyot taking SEC Freshman of the Week accolades. The Tide men also head into this weekend ranked No. 2 in the latest coaches association national ranking index.
Alabama's weekend opens Friday in Starkville, at 6:10 p.m. CT, with the men's 800 meters. The Tide will compete in Baton Rouge on Saturday, opening the LSU Invitational at 10:15Â a.m. CT with the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Alabama in the National Top-10
- Eliud Kipsang's collegiate record in the 1,500 meters (3:33.74) has ranked No. 1, while his 800-meter effort last weekend (1:47.16) has him sitting ninth
- Mercy Chelangat is ranked third in the 5,000 meters after posting a 15:17.28 earlier this season
- Isaac Odugbesan shattered a 42-year-old school record in the men's shot put on Saturday with a toss of 20.66 meters, which ranks him third nationally
- Kieran McKeag went 71.53 meters in the men's hammer at the Crimson Tide Invitational to rank third nationally
- The men's 4x100-meter relay of Jekovan Rhetta, Tarsis Orogot, Mason Phillips and Demetrius Jackson laid down a blistering 38.86 over the weekend to ranked fifth nationally
- Victor Kiprop is fifth in the 10,000 meters (28:15.72) and eighth in the 5,000 meters (13:24.48)
- Bobby Colantonio Jr.'s 70.39 meters over the weekend ranks him ninth nationally in the men's hammer
- Alan de Falchi is 10th in the men's discus after a throw of 60.57 meters earlier this season
