The Crimson Tide battled early with the Vols eventually pulling away
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama baseball fell in the series finale against top-ranked Tennessee, 15-4, on Sunday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The loss moves the Crimson Tide to 23-14 on the season and 8-7 in Southeastern Conference action.
The Tide got on the board with a homer from Drew Williamson in the top of the first. Tennessee answered with four runs in the second before a solo shot from Jim Jarvis in the third made it a 4-2 game. The Volunteers added three in the fourth and one in the fifth, with a Zane Denton homer in the top of the sixth adding a run for UA. Tennessee then tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth and four in the eighth. Alabama was able to cross one in the ninth but that was all for the 15-4 final.
The win went to Tennessee starter Drew Beam (8-0) with the freshman contributing 6.2 innings and allowing three runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts. Alabama starter Grayson Hitt (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"Tennessee is really good team, they're No. 1 in the country for a reason, and we ran into a buzzsaw today. The biggest thing we can take away from these last two weeks is that we've gone on the road to two of the toughest places to play in the country and finished 4-2. We've got to flush today, refocus and come back with a great day of practice tomorrow to get ready for the new week."
