Reentering the lineup for the first time since February, Emilie Øverås paced the Crimson Tide through the first 18 holes. The junior turned in a 1-over-par 73 for a share of 11th place. She rallied a team-high three birdies on the round, including two of her last three holes on the par-4 No. 16 and the par-5 No. 18.
Playing in her first SEC Championship, Isabella van der Biest recorded a 3-over-par 75 Wednesday. Her round included going one under on the back nine, Alabama's lowest nine-hole output of the day. The freshman, who also had three birdies during her round, including the final two holes, has a share of 33rd place.
Angelica Moresco was even par through her first 10 holes and just one over through her first 14 holes, momentarily finding herself in the top 15. She suffered a triple bogey on the par-4 No. 15, capping her round with a 5-over-par 77 and a share of 49th place.
Benedetta Moresco carded a 5-over-par 77 to tie for 49th, too, rallying for an even par on the back nine after shooting five over on the front nine. Polly Mack shot a 7-over-par 79 Wednesday, sitting in 58th place.
Alabama will tee off hole No. 10 in Thursday's second round at 8:20 a.m. CT paired with Kentucky.
From Head Coach Mic Potter
"Obviously, we had a rough day today. The good news is we're only three shots back of the top eight after playing that way. I was really proud of Emilie and Isabella for hanging in there the way they did. They kept us in the tournament. Now we have to get our top three, our two seniors and one of the best amateurs in the world, to get going and play the way they're capable of playing. There are 36 holes left, that's a lot of golf left, and we are very capable. We have to play our game and get rid of the fear and get rid of the tension."
