
Lydia Lasprilla Names Cabe Waters as Women’s Golf Coach Assistant Coach

Waters arrives to Tuscaloosa after serving as associate head coach at Houston
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama women's golf head coach Lydia Lasprilla announced Friday the hiring of Cabe Waters as assistant coach. Waters comes to Tuscaloosa after spending last season on Lasprilla's staff as the associate head coach at Houston.
"Cabe will be a great addition to our staff at Alabama," said Lasprilla. "I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching with Cabe throughout our time at Houston and he brings a great skillset that will be vital to our program. I am so happy his family will be joining us in Tuscaloosa and cannot wait to get started."
After competing as a student-athlete at Limestone University, where he was an all-conference golfer, Waters has served as an assistant coach with stints at Missouri (2023-25), Georgia Southern (2021-23) and at Limestone (2017-21) in addition to his last stop at Houston.

"Alabama has made a tremendous investment in its golf programs and has positioned itself for long-term success at the highest level of collegiate golf. Cabe Waters Bio
- In his lone season at Houston, Waters helped guide the Cougars to its first-ever NCAA Championship appearance
- Spent two seasons at Missouri (2023-25) where he helped the Tigers set a program record with a 293.1 stroke average during the 2023-24 season – nearly four strokes better than the previous season
- In his final season at Missouri, the Tigers posted three top-three team finishes, including a second-place showings at the Johnie Imes Invitational and the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Showdown
- The Tigers collected their first SEC Golfer of the Week accolade in program history when Melanie Walker earned the award while Fleur van Beek was named the conference's Freshman of the Week later in the season after becoming the first MU rookie to win an individual title in 26 seasons
- Worked two seasons at Georgia Southern (2021-23), helping the Eagles to their most successful run in team history, producing one WGCA All-American Scholar, two All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team honorees and the Sun Belt Conference Individual Champion, Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year
- Georgia Southern claimed six tournament championships in Waters' two years on campus
- Highlighting the run was the winning the 2022 Sun Belt Championship – the first in program history while advancing to the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, where the program finished seventh
- During his time at Georgia Southern, the Eagles also claimed three individual titles with Waters on the staff while carding eight of the 10 lowest rounds in program history
- Overall, the Eagles set school records for team tournament score, individual tournament score and lowest team round during his tenure
- After graduating at Limestone, Waters served as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's teams
- In four years, he helped lead the Saints to five NCAA Division II Regionals and a pair of NCAA Division II Championships appearances
- During his tenure, the Saints produced 27 All-Conference selections, three Conference Carolinas Players of the Year, two Jack Nicklaus Award semifinalists and 11 WGCA/PING All-Americans while winning 17 tournament team championships
- In 2018-19 alone, both men's and women's programs qualified for NCAA Regional play with the women's squad advancing to match play at the NCAA Division II Championships in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Playing Experience
- Waters was an award-winning four-year student-athlete at Limestone University from 2014-17
- During his senior year in 2017, Waters was named to the Conference Carolinas All-Championship Team and was a member of the All-Conference Carolinas Second Team
- Waters also was recognized as the Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Month in September 2016
- Combined with his work in the classroom, Water was recognized as the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year

- Garnered Conference Carolina All-Tournament Team honors and earned a place on the All-Conference Carolina Third Team in 2016
