
Alabama Defeats LSU 4-3 In A Friday Night Thriller

The Crimson Tide recorded the final point of the night off a three-set tiebreaker from Anna Parkhomenko at No. 4 singles
BATON ROUGE, La. –– With the team scored tied at 3-3, Anna Parkhomenko battled through a third-set tiebreaker to clinch the 4-3 victory for the Alabama women's tennis team (14-6, 4-4 SEC) in its Friday night match against LSU (4-10, 3-6 SEC).
The Crimson Tide recorded its first win against the Tigers since the 2015 season. In addition to Parkhomenko's three-set 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8) victory at No. 4 singles, Petra Sedlackova won 7-6 (4), 6-4 at No. 3 singles and Anne Marie Hiser won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Additionally, the Tide saw wins from doubles partners Loudmilla Bencheikh and Hiser (7-5) at No. 1 and Parkhomenko and Sedlackova (6-0) at No. 2.
The Match
- Alabama won the first doubles match with Parkhomenko and Sedlackova blanking Taylor Bridges and Safiya Carrington 6-0 at No. 2
- The Tigers won a 6-3 match on court three to even the attempt and force the decision for the first point to be made at the top of the order
- After sitting tied at 5-5, Bencheikh and Hiser fought to take the next two games and give Alabama a 1-0 start
- Hiser put together a quick 6-1, 6-1 win on court five over Taylor Bridges as 107th-ranked Sedlackova followed with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over 94th-ranked Ena Babic on court three for a 3-0 Alabama lead
- The Tigers, however, recorded wins at courts one, six and two, respectively, to even the score
- After dropping the first set, 6-2, Parkhomenko rallied for a 6-4 second set decision against Maggie Cubitt on court four. The two players swapped points in the final set, eventually ending up in a 6-6 tie. As the final point came down to a third-set tiebreaker, Parkhomenko battled into extra points to take a 7-6 (8) victory for the team win.
