Alabama Swimming and Diving Opens Art Adamson Invitational with School Record

Victor Johansson bettered the school standard in the 500 freestyle on the first day of the Texas A&M hosted invitational
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Victor Johansson got the Alabama swimming and diving teams off to a great start at the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station, Texas Wednesday, picking up the win in the 500 freestyle with a school record.
Johansson touched the wall at 4:14.34 to better the previous mark of 4:14.82 set by Mark Randall in 2010. Charlie Hawke was second in the 500 with a time of 4:16.57, just off his career-best time.
Alabama swimmers return to action on Thursday, while the divers open competition at the WVU. Invite in Morgantown, W.Va., on Thursday.
Alabama in the A-Final at The Art Adamson Invitational
- Rhyan White, Avery Wiseman, Morgan Scott and Kalia Antoniou close out night one for the Tide women with a win in the 400 medley relay, going 3:29.87
- Matt Menke, Tim Korstanje, Derek Maas and Kacper Piotrowski combined to go 1:17.85 and win the 200 freestyle relay
- The Tide women opened the first night of finals by taking second in the 200 freestyle relay after Antoniou, Scott, Cora Dupre and Kailyn Winters posted a 1:27.56
- Antoniou went 21.86 while Scott went 22.07 to go 2-3 in the A final of the women 50 freestyle
- Alabama put three in the A final of the women's 200 individual medley with White finishing second with a career-best time of 1:56.82, which ranks her fifth all-time at UA, Diana Petkova took fourth with a 1:57.97 and Cat Wright touched in eighth place with a time of 1:59.61
- Kensey McMahon went a 4:43.22 to take second and Mackenzie Brandt stopped the clock at 4:45.99 to take seventh in the women's 500 freestyle, which ranks her sixth all-time at Alabama
- Korstanje went 19.99 to take eighth in the A final of the men's 50 freestyle
- Maas goes 1:45.52 to take eighth in the A final of the 200 individual medley
Art Adamson Invitational
- The invitational runs Wednesday to Friday with prelims starting at 9:30 a.m., CT and finals getting underway at 5:30 p.m. each day
- The invitational is being held at the Rec Center Natatorium and will include six teams - Alabama, Texas A&M, Air Force, LSU, TCU and USC
- Results can be found on Meet Mobile and the meet will be streamed on SEC Network+
WVU Invite
- The invite starts Thursday and runs through Saturday, with diving starting at 11:30 p.m. CT on Thursday and Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday
- The Invite will be held at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park
