
Alabama Women’s Tennis Opens 2022 Season with Home Double Header

The Crimson Tide hosts Samford and Troy Sunday at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team opens the 2022 dual-match season on Sunday, Jan. 23, hosting Samford and Troy at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility. The Crimson Tide hosts the Bulldogs at 11 a.m. CT, before going head-to-head against the Trojans at 4 p.m. CT.
Admission to all Alabama tennis matches is free. Masks are strongly encouraged.

A Look at the Tide
- Loudmilla Bencheikh and Anne Marie Hiser enter the spring season ranked No. 19 as a doubles pair, according to the latest ITA rankings
- The pair won the ITA Southern Regionals doubles title, the program's first regional doubles champion since Erin Routliffe and Andie Daniell posted back-to-back victories in 2015 and 2016
- In singles, Bencheikh is ranked 88th and Petra Sedlackova is ranked 103rd
- Four players return from last year's roster as Bencheikh, Hiser, Sydney Orefice and Anna Parkhomenko helped UA advance to its 16th NCAA Tournament
- Alabama also welcomed four newcomers in Kasia Pitak, Ola Pitak, Ansley Cheshire and Sedlackova
The Fall Season
- Bencheikh and Hiser paced the team after advancing to the ITA Fall National Championships to compete as a doubles pair
- The UA duo swept the ITA Southern Regionals, recording six wins in the tournament
- In addition to Bencheikh and Hiser, Sedlackova had a strong fall performance, advancing to the semifinals at the ITA Southern Regionals
- At the Roberta Alison Fall Invitational, Sedlackova and Parkhomenko swept their doubles bracket, going 3-0, as Cheshire, Ola Pitak and Sedlackova went 1-1 in singles play
- Alabama also competed in the Ole Miss Fall Invite with Bencheikh, Hiser and Sedlackova recording a pair of singles wins, while the duo of Bencheikh and Hiser posted two doubles victories
Scouting the Bulldogs
- Alabama and Samford will meet for the ninth time with UA holding an 8-0 record in the series
- The two teams last met in 2015 with Alabama coming away with a 4-1 victory
- Samford opens its season on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m. CT as the Bulldogs face Alabama State in a dual match
- The Bulldogs went 14-11 last season, advancing to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament
The Troy Trojans
- This is the fifth time Alabama and Troy will go head-to-head with Alabama leading the series 4-0
- UA hosted the Trojans last season, topping Troy 7-0 in the match
- Last season, Troy recorded an 8-11 overall record, earning a spot in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament
- The team topped Arkansas State 4-0 before falling in the quarterfinals to South Alabama
