It is the women’s highest ranking in school history and the men’s first top-15 ranking since 2018
NEW ORLEANS – It was moving day for Alabama cross country on Tuesday with the women moving up to No. 5, while the men went from outside the top 30 last week to 15th in the national poll following a strong showing at the North Alabama Showcase last Friday.
It is the highest ranking in program history for the UA women, and the men's first top-25 ranking since the fourth week of the 2018 season and the first time in the top-15 since ranking sixth for the first three weeks of 2018.
The national jumps come after the Crimson Tide men moved from No. 3 to No. 1 in the South Region and the women maintained their hold on No. 1 in the region.
The Crimson Tide men swept the top three spots at the Showcase, with rookies Victor Kiprop and Hillary Cheruiyot taking first and third, respectively, in their collegiate debut, while Eliud Kipsang took the silver in the second-year debut. Jacob Wiggers took seventh at the Huntsville, Ala., meet, giving UA four top-10 finishes, leading to a 25-point tally and a decisive team win for Alabama.
The Alabama women moved from No. 7 to No. 5 this week in the poll after taking third at the UNA Showcase, led by Crimson Tide rookie Flomena Asekol, who crossed the line in second place.
Alabama returns to action on Oct. 1 at the Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
