Alabama Track and Field Sends Student-Athletes to the LSU Alumni Gold and John McDonnell Invitational

The Crimson Tide will compete in Baton Rouge, La., and Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track and field breaks into two travel squads to compete in their second-to-last regular season meets. The Crimson Tide will compete at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La., and the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
LSU Alumni Gold
- The LSU Alumni Gold meet will be held at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., on Friday and Saturday
- Alabama will travel their sprinters, hurdlers, relay teams, mid-distance runners and throwers down to the Bayou
- The meet will commence at 12 p.m. CT on Friday with Samantha Kunza and Taylor Gorum competing in the women's hammer throw event, followed by the Bobby Colantonio Jr. and Kieran McKeag in the men's hammer throw at 1:30 p.m.
- Saturday's events will start at 10 a.m. CT with Alexa Cruz in the women's 5,000 meters and Taylor Gorum and Nickolette Dunbar in the women's discus
- The meet will conclude after the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:10 p.m. CT on Saturday
John McDonnell Invitational
- The Tide returns to Fayetteville, Ark., after traveling to the University of Arkansas three times during the indoor track and field season
- Alabama's distance runners will be competing in the John McDonnell Invitational
- Esther Gitahi and Sophie Spada will kick off the Tide's run in Fayetteville on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT for the women's 1,500-meter run
- The Alabama men will conclude the Tide's appearance in Arkansas with the 5,000-meter invite on Saturday at 8:25 p.m. CT
National Ranks
- The Alabama women are ranked seventh in the nation and the Alabama men are ranked eighth in the country according to the USTFCCCA National TFRI: Track and Field Rating Index as of April 19
- Tamara Clark holds best time in the nation in the women's 100-meter dash after her 11.07 performance at the Crimson Tide Invitational
- Clark also hold the second-best time in the nation in the 200 meters after posting a 22.50 at the Florida Relays
- Freshman Eliud Kipsang had the nation's best performance in the men's 1,500-meter dash, finishing in 3:36.00 at the Crimson Tide Invitational
- Mercy Chelangat continues to hold the second-best time in the nation in the women's 10,000 meters after she ran a 32:31.43 at the Raleigh Relays
- Senior Robert Dunning remains second nationally in the men's 400-meter hurdles after he produced a 49.70 time at the Florida Relays
Last Time Out
- The Alabama squad hosted the Crimson Tide Invitational last weekend, securing 25 medals and breaking two program records
- On the second day of competition, Eliud Kipsang shattered the school's 1,500-meter run record after recording a time of 3:36.00
- Ryan Lipe also set a new program record in the men's pole vault event after he vaulted for 5.60m on the last day of the meet
- Also, on Saturday, Tamara Clark secured a new Sam Bailey Track Stadium record after her performance in the women's 100-meter dash (11.07)
- In the women's 1,500-meter run, Amaris Tyynismaa set a new stadium record with her time of 4:12.72 on Friday
- Jake Spotswood won his first attempt at the men's decathlon after finishing with 7,529 points
