Alabama Volleyball Drops Friday Rematch Against Tennessee

The Crimson Tide concludes its season next weekend in Tuscaloosa against Ole Miss
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Alabama volleyball dropped its Friday rematch against Tennessee in three sets by scores of 16-25, 12-25 and 21-25.
Alabama (10-18, 2-14 SEC) was led offensively in the match against Tennessee (19-8, 11-6 SEC) by Sami Jacobs' seven kills with Laila Smith totaling eight points split between four kills and four blocks. Brooke Slusser tallied her third double-double of the season, finishing with 19 assists and 10 digs.
A big block from Abby Marjama and Laila Smith gave Alabama a 6-5 lead early in the first set but Tennessee would move back ahead soon after at 11-10. What ended up as a 6-0 run put the Lady Vols in front 14-10 and they would continue to build on the lead, eventually winning the frame by nine at 25-16.
Tennessee carried the momentum into the second, starting with four unanswered and pulling ahead 9-2 before Alabama spent the early timeout. The second Tide timeout came three points later facing a 12-2 deficit and the Lady Vols would win the set by double digits, 25-12.
Alabama spent an early timeout in the third looking to halt Tennessee's momentum after a service ace put the Lady Vols ahead 8-4. The Tide answered back with a 4-1 run after the break, with an ace from Dru Kuck making it a one-point game at 9-8. Following a Lady Vol timeout, the home team started to add some distance, leading 17-11 at Alabama's second timeout. The Tide drew within three in the closing points, including a 3-0 run facing match point, but Tennessee held on to take the set, 25-21, and the match.
