LEXINGTON, Ky. – Alabama women's basketball lost its first road game of the season on Thursday, falling 81-68 at No. 15/14 Kentucky. The Crimson Tide moves to 12-3 overall and 5-3 against Southeastern Conference opponents following the loss, while the Wildcats improve to 12-4 on the season and 5-3 in league play.
Jasmine Walker led the game with 27 points and 11 rebounds in addition to a trio of blocks. She was joined in double figures by Jordan Lewis, who added 15 points and seven assists for the Tide.
The game was locked at 17 at the end of the first, but a 14-2 run by Kentucky in the second helped the Wildcats to a 39-28 lead at the half. Kentucky would go on to lead by as many as 22 in the third, however solid shooting from beyond the arc for Alabama would cut the lead down to eight in the final quarter. The Wildcats went on to score 12 of the final 19 points down the stretch to secure the win.
Head Coach Kristy Curry Said
"You have to credit Kentucky. I thought they had great balance. I thought we really struggled beyond Jas [Walker] and Jordan [Lewis]. I thought Destiny Rice and Myra [Gordon] came off the bench, but I didn't think we got very much from our other three starters. Ariyah [Copeland] has got to play better. We've got to play better with Meg [Abrams]. I was disappointed, to be honest with you, but I also think a lot of coaches just get on and talk about everything they didn't do, and I want to make sure I credit Kentucky. I thought that they looked like they have nine Power 5 starters, and they have a lot of different players that can really help them out and impact the stat sheet, whether it was rebounding the ball or points."
