Women’s Basketball Loses on the Road at No. 4/3 South Carolina

Jordan Lewis scored a team-best 19 points to record her 10th straight double-figure outing
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Alabama led No. 4/3 South Carolina at the half, but South Carolina would go on to outscore the Crimson Tide in the second half in the 87-63 decision Sunday at Colonial Life Arena. With the loss, Alabama stands at 12-4 overall and 5-4 against Southeastern Conference opponents, while the Gamecocks improve to 14-1 on the season and 9-0 in league play.
Jordan Lewis led the way offensively for the Tide, scoring 19 points in her 39 minutes of action. She was joined in double figures by Jasmine Walker (15) and Megan Abrams (10). Destiny Rice chipped in nine points, her highest against an SEC team in her career, in 22 minutes off the bench. Ariyah Copeland had a team-high seven rebounds, while she and Walker each recorded two blocks in the game.
Alabama took a 16-8 lead midway through the first quarter before South Carolina scored the next nine straight. A layup from Hannah Barber at the 1:56 mark put the Tide back on top, however the Gamecocks put up the final six points to lead 26-21 at the end of the first.
South Carolina pulled ahead by seven early in the second, but Alabama would end up outscoring the Gamecocks 20-14 over the 10:00 span to lead 41-40 at halftime.
South Carolina came out of the gates fast in the third, scoring 15 of the first 20 points and took its first double-digit lead of the game at 4:46 off a three from Zia Cooke. A layup by Lewis with 13 seconds to go cut the lead to eight, however Cooke would put one more up for the Gamecocks to give them a 64-54 advantage to close out the third.
South Carolina continued to outscore Alabama in the final frame, adding the majority of its points from the free throw line.

- In her two games against the Gamecocks in 2021, Lewis scored a combined 47 points.
- Walker extended her games in double digits to 17 as she has reached the 10-plus point mark in every game this season and her final contest of the 2019-20 campaign.
