The Crimson Tide went up 2-1 before the Gators stormed back to win the match
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 47 Alabama women's tennis fell in its Southeastern Conference opener against Florida, 4-2, on Friday night at the Alabama Tennis Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide dropped to 11-3, 0-1 SEC on the year, while the Gators moved to 4-2, 1-0 in SEC play.
From Coach Mainz
- "I think we did a lot of good things tonight and we have a lot of positives to build on," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "We won a really tough doubles point. We're playing more aggressive and confident in doubles in general. In singles we got off to a good start on three courts, but I think we played a good match and we competed well. Florida is a solid team and I thought it was a good match both ways."
Doubles
- The Tide picked up the crucial doubles point to start the match after seniors Ann Selim and Luca Fabian defeated Berlin/Emma, 6-4, on court three before freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk and senior Alba Cortina Pou clinched the point with their 6-4 victory against Dimitrova/Jarlskog.
Singles
- The Gators bounced back in singles play after a win on court four to tie it up at 1-1. Moments later, freshman Isabella Harvison picked up her first win over a nationally ranked opponent when she downed No. 113 Victoria Emma, 6-2, 6-2, to give UA the 2-1 edge. UF responded by coming away with the next three matches, including a three-set victory on court five to seal the 4-2 win.
