
Women's Tennis to Open Southeastern Conference Play This Weekend at Home

The Crimson Tide will play Florida on Friday, followed by a doubleheader against No. 30 South Carolina and Alcorn State on Sunday
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team will kick-off its Southeastern Conference season against Florida on Friday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The Crimson Tide (11-2) defeated the Gators (3-2) last year for the first time in Gainesville.
The Tide continues its weekend by facing No. 30 South Carolina on Sunday. The Gamecocks have a 4-4 record going into Sunday's competition. The teams will face-off at home starting at 12 p.m. CT, while UA will finish the weekend with a 4 p.m. matchup against Alcorn State.

Series History
- The Crimson Tide defeated Florida last year, however, the Gators lead the overall series 41-2.
- South Carolina came away with the victory against Alabama last year, increasing its series total 16-12 all-time.
- Sunday will mark only the second time the Alabama women have faced Alcorn State. They defeated the Braves last season.

- Freshman Isabella Harvison has an impressive singles mark with a 10-2 record in dual match play, while senior Alba Cortina Pou is a perfect 11-0 which leads the SEC. In addition, freshman Ares Teixido is 9-3 in singles in 2020.
- In doubles, Harvison and junior Moka Ito moved up one spot to No. 55 in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings putting together an 8-1 dual match mark. Freshman Sasha Gorchanyuk and Cortina Pou have also totaled an 8-1 doubles record.

- Florida has three singles players ranked including, No. 49 McCartney Kessler, No. 68 Layne Sleeth and No. 113 Victoria Emma. In doubles, Sleeth and Marlee Zein are the No. 51 doubles pair in the country.
- Silvia Chinellato and Emma Shelton are the No. 12 duo in the country, while Mia Horvit and Megan Davies came in at No. 56 in the latest doubles rankings for the Gamecocks. Davies is also No. 20 in singles, while Horvit is No. 42 and Shelton is No. 125.
