Alabama Women's Basketball Set to Make Quick Trip to No. 9/9 Mississippi State

The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will tipoff at 1 p.m. CT in Starkville, Miss.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will make the quick trip to Starkville, Mississippi to take on No. 9/9 Mississippi State on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. CT inside Humphrey Coliseum. Both the Crimson Tide (15-11, 5-8 SEC) and the Bulldogs (23-4, 11-2 SEC) got back on track with close wins on Thursday night. The Tide picked up a much-needed home victory over Florida, 69-62, while MSU came back and defeated Auburn on the road in overtime, 92-85.
This is the 59th meeting between the two programs with Alabama holding the 36-22 all-time advantage. However, the Bulldogs have controlled the series as of late by winning six straight against the Crimson Tide. Alabama's last victory against the Bulldogs came on Feb. 20, 2014 when the Tide won 72-64 in Tuscaloosa. Alabama has lost four-consecutive games in Starkville, with the last win in Humphrey Coliseum coming on Feb. 3, 2011.

- The Crimson Tide has played its best basketball on Sundays by compiling a 9-2 record on the year. Four of five of Alabama's conference wins have come on Sunday.
- In her last two games, redshirt junior Jordan Lewis has dominated by averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and five assists. She became the program's 29th 1,000-point scorer on Jan. 20 at Tennessee and currently has 1,104 career points which is No. 21 on Alabama's scoring list. Lewis took over the No. 7 spot in career assists at against Kentucky on Feb. 6. For the season, Lewis leads the team in points (13.2) and assists (3.7).
- Senior Ashley Knight is currently averaging 1.88 blocks per game which is No. 43 in the nation and fifth in the SEC. Her 49 blocked shots this season are good enough for No. 36 in the country and fifth in the conference. The 49 swats are tied for seventh-most most by an Alabama player in a single season. With three blocks against UNC (12/15), Knight passed Alabama great Yolanda Watkins for the most blocks in UA history. She currently has 218 career blocks, which is the most actively in the SEC.
- Junior Jasmine Walker is one of the best three-point shooters in the conference, as she fifth in the SEC in three-point makes (50) and sixth in makes per game (1.92). Walker leads the team in shots attempted (273), shots made (108), three-point makes (50) and three-point attempts (136). The Montgomery native also is tops on the team in rebounds per game with 7.0. In road games, Walker leads the Tide with 13.7 points and 7.8 rebounds each time out.
- Alabama is one of the best in the country at getting to the free throw line. The Crimson Tide is No. 25 in the nation in free throw attempts (527) and No. 25 in makes (369). UA is knocking down its attempts at a 70.0 percent clip which is good enough for fourth in the SEC.
About Mississippi State
- MSU has a stellar 11-1 record at home, including a perfect 6-0 mark in SEC play inside Humphrey Coliseum. The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight games.
- Mississippi State has three players averaging double figures, including Rickea Jackson who leads the way with 15 points per contest. Jessika Carter is putting up 13.6 points to go along with 8.9 rebounds, while Jordan Danberry is averaging 12.2 points and 2.6 steals each time out.
- Mississippi State is the best shooting team in the conference (47.1 percent) and forces the most turnovers in the SEC (21.6 per game). The Bulldog offense averages 79.8 points per game, while holding opponents to 59.5 points per contest.
- Head Coach Vic Schafer has compiled a 217-60 record in eight seasons with MSU. Last year he was named the ESPNW National Coach of the Year. Schafer led the Bulldogs to back-to-back National Championship appearances in 2017 and 2018.
