Alabama Defeats Florida Down the Stretch, 69-62

The Crimson Tide outscored the Gators 16-5 in the last five minutes of the game
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team won a closely contested battle down the stretch against Florida, 69-62, on Thursday evening inside Coleman Coliseum. After a back-and-forth affair, the Crimson Tide (15-11, 5-8 SEC) went on a 16-5 run in the last five minutes against the Gators (14-12, 5-8 SEC) to put the game out of reach.
Redshirt junior Jordan Lewis scored 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists. For Lewis, it was her third consecutive game in double figures. Junior Jasmine Walker contributed 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

"I am just really proud of our kids for finding a way to win," said head coach Kristy Curry. "Jordan Lewis was just amazing as far as having the ball in her hands. I mean to look at her numbers, to have eight rebounds, second on our team behind Jasmine Walker at nine, and six assists to five turnovers and just finding ways to score and have some poise and toughness, I think we really fed off of her down the stretch. I thought Ashley Knight and Amber Richardson came in and provided some defensive intensity for us and we were able to get a few stops. It's just a credit our kids for finding a way to win."
Quarter-By-Quarter
- The first quarter started out close with Alabama leading the Gators 16-14 after the first 10 minutes of action.
- The Tide began the second quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 22-14 lead in the first two minutes, before Florida went on a run of their own, outscoring UA 13-2 to give the UF a 27-24 advantage with 3:44 remaining in the half. Sophomore Hannah Barber hit a three with 20 seconds left to give Alabama a 35-33 lead headed into halftime.
- Neither team could pull away in the third, as the scoring went back-and-forth with Florida holding the 49-48 advantage at the end of the quarter.
- The Gators jumped out to a 54-48 lead to start the fourth with a quick 5-0 run. Alabama answered back with a three from sophomore Brittany Davis to take the 58-57 lead with 4:21 left to play. The Tide went on an 8-0 run over a three-minute span to put UA up 66-58 with just over a minute left in the game. Alabama added free throws late to give the Tide the 69-62 victory.
Player Spotlight
- Lewis was 6-of-8 (75 percent) from the floor, while grabbing a season-high eight boards.
- Walker was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line, while coming up just one rebound shy of her fifth double-double this year.

- The Crimson Tide shot lights out from the floor, after shooting 49 percent (25-of-51) for the game.
- Alabama was able to outplay the Gators in the paint, outscoring UF 36-30.
