
Alabama Track & Field will Split its Squads this Weekend

The Crimson Tide will split between four meets on opposites sides of the country
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama track & field will split its squads for the first time this indoor season, with a contingent heading out west to the Texas Tech Shootout and another group set to compete at the Vanderbilt Music City Invite on Feb. 14-15. The Crimson Tide will also send a handful of women's distance runners to Washington's Husky Classic and one lone runner to the Iowa State Classic Friday.
Texas Tech Shootout
- In Texas, the Tide will compete in the sprints, hurdles, jumps and relays.
- The Friday and Saturday meet will welcome another solid crop of programs, including Arizona, BYU, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.
- The Texas Tech Shootout will begin Friday at 4 p.m. CT and Saturday's events will start at 11 a.m. CT.
Vanderbilt Music City Invite
- The majority of the Crimson Tide distance corps and throwers will be competing in the Vanderbilt Music City Invite on Friday and Saturday at the Vanderbilt Mulitpurpose Facility.
- Events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT Friday and 10 a.m. CT Saturday.
Iowa State Classic
- Sophomore Noel Rotich is the solo Crimson Tide distance runner that will face an elite group of competition at the Iowa State Classic.
- The sophomore is set to compete in the 5000m at 6:25 p.m. CT.
Husky Classic
- In addition to the three meets, Alabama will take a group of three to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Classic.
- Friday, graduate student Leah Hanle will run the 3000m at 5:15 p.m. CT while senior Esther Gitahi competes at 9:30 p.m. CT. Sophomore Mercy Chelangat will begin competition in the 5000m at 10:10 p.m. CT.
- The threesome will seek to gain qualifications for the NCAA Championships by racing at a talented distance meet in the Pacific Northwest.
Last Time Out
- Alabama women rank No. 20 in the Week Three USTFCCCA National Rating Index, and stand at No.3 in two individual event rankings.
- The Crimson Tide won eight titles with a handful of PRs at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic last weekend.
- Junior Tamara Clark had a break out race in the women's 200m, where she won the race with a big indoor PR and posted a 2020 NCAA leading time of 22.81.
- In the men's 400m, senior Stephan Holcombe clocked the fastest time of 47.79, while senior Natassha McDonald (52.64) picked up a victory for the women.
- Sophomore Bobby Colantonio Jr., who broke the school record in men's weight throw last week, picked up his third win of the season with a toss of 76-06.50 (23.33m).
- Junior Isaac Odugbesan out-threw the field with a 62-02.25 (18.95m) mark in men's shot put and junior Christian Edwards cleared 52-07.50 (16.04m) to place first in men's high jump.
- Senior Robert Dunning clocked a time of 7.73 in the prelim of the 60m hurdles to grab the fastest qualifying time and picked up the victory in the finals with a time of 7.76.
- Another notable Crimson Tide performance came from junior Ryan Lipe in the men's pole vault, he finished second out of collegians at a PR of 17-07.00 (5.36m), pushing him to No. 2 currently in the Southeastern Conference and improving on his place at No. 15 in the NCAA.
