Alabama Track & Field Breaks a School Record on Friday

Sophomore Mercy Chelangat shattered the women's 5000m school record
SEATTLE – The University of Alabama track and field program broke a school record to highlight several strong performances on Friday between the Husky Classic in Seattle and the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock, Texas.
School Record
- Sophomore Mercy Chelangat finished first among all collegians and broke the 5000m school record by nearly 30 seconds at the Husky Classic, running an impressive 15:37.35 for the No. 6 spot in the NCAA so far this season.
- Chelagat shattered a 24-year-old program record previously held by Jessica Fry with a time of 16:06.91 on March 10, 1995.

Texas Tech Shootout
- In men's pole vault, junior Jake Spotswood picked up victory after clearing 16-8 ¼ (5.09m) in the open division, while fellow junior vaulter Ryan Lipe (17-0 ¾/5.20m) placed fifth in the invite.
- Junior Daija Lampkin used a season-best time of 23.70 in the women's 200m to finish third.
- Sophomore Sydney Milani finished runner-up in the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.22.
- In the men's high jump invite, sophomore Carl Nesbitt posted a career-best jump of 6-9 ¾ (2.08m) to take fourth.
- For the women, senior Abigail Kwarteng snubbed a top-five finish at 5-7 ¼ (1.71m).

Vanderbilt Music City Invite
- Junior Taylor Gorum got the day started in Nashville with a launch of 56'9.50 (17.31m) to place 15th in the women's weight throw.
- Two Crimson Tide men's distance runners finished in the top-10 in the men's 5000m. Freshmen Amos Pkiach (14:49.96) placed seventh and Jacob Wiggers (14:53.27) took ninth.

Iowa State Classic
- Sophomore Noel Rotich, the lone Crimson Tide competitor in Ames, Iowa, put together a strong showing in the men's 5000m invite.
- Rotich finished eighth with a career-best time of 13:58.75 at the Iowa State Classic.

- Also in the Pacific Northwest, senior Esther Gitahi (9:16.42) and graduate student Leah Hanle (9:27.376) competed in the women's 3000m.
