Alabama Track & Field’s Tamara Clark Opens 2020 Indoor Season with NCAA Top-Five Performance

The Crimson Tide combined for seven event victories at the UAB Blazer Invitational Friday
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama men's and women's track & field got off to a solid start to the 2020 indoor season at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday.
The Crimson Tide men and women combined for seven event victories, highlighted by an All-Time top-five performance in NCAA Indoor history in the women's 300-meter dash from junior Tamara Clark.

Clark had a day to remember, winning the women's 300-meter dash with a time of 36.56. The junior's time in the indoor 300-meter dash marks the third fastest performer with the fifth fastest performance in collegiate history. Nebraska's Merlene Ottey (1982) holds the No.1 spot on the all-time performance list with a record time of 35.69.
Alabama Highlights
- Among the seven victories, sophomore Chago Basso was the first to win an event for the Crimson Tide as Basso won the men's shot put with a toss of 61-08.25 (18.80m), while fellow teammate junior Isaac Odugbesan took second at 60-09.25 (18.52m).
- Sophomore Bobby Colantonio Jr. won the men's weight throw with a best launch of 71-07.50 (21.83m).
- Alabama also picked up wins from junior Paul Selden (15:35.96) in the men's 5000 meters, senior Robert Dunning (7.74) in the men's 60-meter hurdles and junior Leander Forbes (1:02.38) in the men's 500-meter dash.
- In her Crimson Tide debut, Cherisse Murray finished third in the women's shot put with a best throw of 51-09.00 (15.77m), while junior Nickolette Dunbar placed fourth with 50-08.00 (15.44m).
- In pole vault, junior Taylor Pickett placed second in the women's with a 12-05.50 (3.80m) mark, while junior Ryan Lipe cleared 15-05.00 (4.70m) to finish third in the men's.
- Senior Abigail Kwarteng logged a clearance of 5-08.50 (1.74m) to claim second in women's high jump.
- Also in the women's 300-meter dash, senior D'Jai Baker (37.86) finished runner-up and junior Daija Lampkin (38.11) placed fourth.
- Sophomore Sydney Milani ran a 1:15.64 in the women's 500-meter to finish second overall.
- In the 60-meter dash, Clark (7.23) finished runner-up for the women, as did senior Alize Ford (6.79) for the men.
- The Crimson Tide wrapped up its first meet of the season with a victory in the men's 4x400-meter relay with Dunning and juniors Champion Allison, Joshua St. Clair and Leander Forbes (3:12.96).
